Hey everyone. We wanted to talk about why The Final Shape raid is going live shortly after release on June 7. We know this is a tight turnaround and wanted to share some context on why we made this decision. Back in August, we said that finishing the campaign would not be the grand finale of the Light and Darkness saga. You will be facing off against the Witness in the raid, and for non-raiders there will be an opportunity for everyone to experience the conclusion sometime after the raid.
The Final Shape expansion is different: the additional content in the Pale Heart post-campaign and unlocking the raid for everyone is important for getting a cohesive and satisfying story experience. We're looking at you, raiders, to be the tip of the spear. 👀
When raid day arrives, no matter if you choose to go in for Contest mode in the first 48 hours or wait for Normal mode to unlock, in order to experience the story linearly and as intended, you need to have the campaign completed and finish the quest 'Wild Card'. Prioritize those!
Episode Echoes story, the beginning of the next journey starts in week two.

I'm concerned that there will not be a way for non-raiders to experience the content that is in the raid, which is likely fighting the witness, you guys are betraying your community by gatekeeping an essential part of the end of Destiny's story in a raid, which the vast majority of come-and-go don't participate in. Guess I'll be watching a live stream instead of experiencing it myself. Disappointing.

Stop putting story in raids. Its the worst content the game can offer. I hated when other guardians beat riven and it affected my game. Dumb decision. Nobody wants to 6 man raid. To many ppl. Too many dumb puzzles. Its a shooting game.

Destiny 2’s raid releases have been on the second Saturday after the expansion’s release for five years now. 5 years is a long time to set precedent and then suddenly rip the rug out from people. Since this changes the player population for raids have increased, the numbers for contest mode attempts have increased, and the contest mode clears have increased. Bungie makes the claim that they want to inspire more people to attempt raids and the contest mode releases, and then implements decisions like this that fly in the face to those claims. This decision only negatively impacts TFS’s release & release hype. TFS’s raid should be released on Saturday, June 15th and run for 48hrs. All numbers are sourced from raid report. Prior to 2020 when all raids were released 3 days after the expansion : Average contest mode raid attempts - 168,614.2 Average contest mode raid clears - 33,939 After 2020 when all raids were released on the 2nd Saturday after the expansion : Average contest mode raid attempts - 377,851.5 Average contest mode raid clears - 47,432.3 The last raid prior to 2020’s release change = Garden of Salvation Attempts = 116,783 Clears = 549 The last raid since 2020’s release change = Crota’s End Attempts = 403,050 Clears = 19,362

Nice spoiler you waste of space. Try not telling us everything about every single expansion in trailers, TWABs and dirt like this.
-
I wonder what percentage of players have ever actually completed a raid. I've been here since the start of D1 and never done one. Thinking it might be nice in D3 if they come up with something less time consuming and more enjoyable that would involve a greater percentage of players.

Edited by dodgedude76: 5/5/2024 3:04:17 AMThanks for letting us know. I am not buying the expansion.
-
So make the raid 10 days out as per usual and then release the final campaign? You guys time-gate everything anyway now you want to rush the one thing gamers would rather wait on? Lol
-
What a crock. Hiding the finale behind one of the least engaged activities. Typical Bungie, bungling the finale. Rather fitting given how they bungled base D1 and base D2… And cementing my NOT buying the expansion.

Raids are terrible.

Thanks for the clarification, I assumed as much 😇 👍💠. Getting really hyped... who am I kidding, lol, the amp is at 11 for me already.
-
Catarina, thank you for providing this important information. Lots of luck to you all with the release of The Final Shape. I'm looking forward to it!

Just a wild guess; You beat the Witness in the raid with the aid of 5 other guardians as usual. Then the story opens up, in which you defeat the Witness with the aid of: Eris, Ikora, Zavala, Shax and The Crow. Maybe even Cayde-6, The Drifter and/or Mara Sov This way the ending wouldn’t be spoiled by doing only the story. This way everyone gets to defeat the Witness. Raiders in the ultimate challenge, and story (non-raiders) players in the story. That could make sense, since it is rumoured to be the hardest raid in Destiny history. So everyone has a specific, and equally important, task to fulfill in succesfully defeating the Witness. Just like each character will have their specific task, Shax and Zavala on the front lines, Eris Ikora and Mara Sov with their spells/magic etcetera… Maybe i’m just reaching lol

Hello
-
Stop putting story in your dumb made raids. Campaign is where it belings
-
We developed a new expansion for over a year and when it releases we want you to rush through the content as quick as possible. Never understood this mindset in any expansion.

It’s hilarious that they know they’re screwing over a whole lot of people and are completely fine with it. The little bit of trust Bungie has gained since the 2023 SOTG has completely been shattered by this. The contest mode community (even popular streamers and former day1 contest winners) is only asking for 7 days. 7 days. From a studio that is constantly drip feeding their content - this isn’t a big ask. TFS’s new raid contest mode weekend should be on the weekend of June 14th so more people can participate, more people can attempt, more people can clear it. This event shouldn’t be only for those that no-life the game, play the game as a career, or have the wealth & means to take time off from work to play a video game. The contest mode raid releases should be for as many fans of the game as possible.
-
Watch there's gonna be LFG posts on the app for KWTD games and "must have 5+ clears" games for the raid the day the raid drops, if not for the full week before it.
-
Edited by PS1 Hagrid: 4/25/2024 11:30:20 PMI mean it's still technically not okay for only those who raid to be able to experience the story asap while those who don't raid have to wait a bit but I guess I get where they're coming from.

Anyone else feel that the Bungie Team is setting themselves up for a Cyperpunk 2077 level of launch failure with the raid date being 3 days after? Think about the risk here. The expansion has to launch on time, and with few minimal issues for this to work. Any issues that takes time away from getting the campaign done, level/gear grind, and anything else needed to be able to do the raid, is really going to be greatly exasperated more than normal. Not to mention being able to enjoy the content, everyone is going to skip as much as they can to focus on completing the campaign and whatnot needed to be able to do the raid. And that REALLY SUCKS for the dedicated players who are being forced to rush thru it, instead of enjoying it. I really want this expansion to be successful and able to energize the team. But the risk is high, if they have a bad launch, downloading issues/patching/server/bugs that make them take down the game to do maintenance/patching is going to get a lot of negative press, player hate, and worst revenue loss, is really going to hurt. I know they say its all for the story cohesion but who cares if we have to rush/skip every cutscene, story element, etc to get it done? IMO I believe they need push the raid date back, don't take the risk. Compromise if you have to, start the raid on sunday the 9th? gives you extra breathing room to deal with unknown launch issues and time to react if necessary with minimal impact to the players.

Forced into raids with randoms just to finish a 10 year story. Think I'll just watch the cutscene on YouTube and skip the expac 👍
-
I hate raids. More dungeons. 6person content is stupid. Puzzles in a shooting game stupid. Loot hidden behind 6man events stupid. Most the playerbase doesn’t raid. This if for a select few and content creators. The majority of the population gets to fight the witness after the raid. Stupid

Mf think hes bungie💀 (J)

Whys chain reaction being nerfed bungie ???????????

Started a new topic: Hackers of destiny and destiny allows it(2 Replies))

Bungie been time-gating story content for yrs. The one time we need you to give us a week they decided not to like wtf 🙄

Lets hope the new raid isn't full of lame mechanics that slow the experience down to mind numbing boredom so more will jump in on the fun. Bungie should have leaned towards more content on the lines of onslaught and warlords and the coil . To many heavy mechanics make the raids a one and done for far to many . They are starting to understand that ,but to little to late for D2 . Maybe in D3 they will get it right . If there ever is a D3 .
