I think that it is entirely possible that (due to the lack of detail about the nine in the game) the nine maybe a single thing. Not nine of one thing or nine of different things, but nine things that are one. You guys remember ghost saying that the vex are connected but we can see them as individual units? I think that the nine are like the vex (although maybe not so determined to eliminate humanity) in the sense that they are connected to each other at a mental and emotional level.
If you don't understand what I'm saying picture how steel is made... In case you don't know how steel is made I'm going to describe it; you start with several a different metals such as iron, aluminum, and zinc all of these materials have their weaknesses. For example iron is strong but the weight of it doesn't allow humans to build tall building because it's not cost efficient, aluminum is flexible and light but not as strong as iron, and zinc is rust resistant while iron is not. Therefore by combining these metals creates a better metal that has very few weaknesses compared to the original metals.
The reason I'm saying this is because I think that the nine were formerly in their own independent bodies and then realized that they all had weaknesses that were the strengths of the others. So they decided that in order to eliminate all of their weaknesses they decided to surrender their physical, mental, emotional independence in order to form one super being that had no flaws or weaknesses.
We all have talked the grimoire card that has given us the most information about the nine that card is Legends 2. Here is the card.
"The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning.
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is."
If you read it then you will notice that each of the paragraphs describe one thing. For example the paragraph talking about the first born awoken. There are nine paragraphs in total. So by reading this it dawned on me... How can the nine be the ghosts, deep orbit warminds, and in the seas of Europa? I think that a part of the nine was vex therefore allowing it to teleport across solar systems.
The nine being different beings that merged gave the nine abilities that no guardian has achieved. These abilities that have been granted to the nine are the kind of abilities that is needed to destroy the darkness, but as I said if they merged with a vex unit there is darkness in the nine trying to destroy us but the good will and light that the nine has overpowers that of the darkness. And that fixes the paragraph talking about how the nine are aspects of the darkness and want to destroy us.
Also the point that I made by saying when the nine individuals merged they gained enough power to defeat the onslaught of darkness that is coming. This power they gained allowed them to sacrifice their best gear. So guardians like Toland, Dredgen Yor, Shin Malphur and many more were able to give up their gear because they no longer needed it.
So that's my new theory about the nine. Let me know if you guys like this theory better than the other or not. Leave comments I love getting the feedback and I want to hear the ideas that you guys have.

This theory doesn't seem to make much sense. Why would they need to absorb a vex when there's a thing called a spaceship, we'll be going to Europa once the HoW drops. And how can the nine be in all these different places at once? Well maybe they went on adventure there, then found eachother and were like "yo dawg we gunna be the Nine now." To be honest your theory has a lot of holes in it, the last one was more reasonable but even still I don't think the nine are right before our eyes.
