I assume electroweak refers to an electroplated material. The "weak" could refer to the electroplated material having a weak molecular bond, or more of a liquid metal state. If that is the case, why has the traveller not repaired the damage to itself?
On a related note, I believe the Nine created the traveller and ghosts, and that strange coins are a data storage device created by the traveller to gather and store information.

Could be that a large amount of energy is required for healing however protecting humanity is taking up a lot of that energy?
