This is a single part of a much larger story, A New Dark Shines, to read from the beginning of the beginning: Arttu and the Ahamkara-Chapter 1; The Spine
A Ghost in the Dark
Erik wasn't far from the jesters court, but he didn't realize that. He was close to where the transmission was lost, but he didn't know that either. Time moved slowly for Erik now.
Erik walked in circles without realizing. He started to hear voices, his voice a distant whisper, Hanne-16's a little farther off, and Asger's much closer. They screamed, they begged, they cried.
Asger's voice was the first he heard, it came from the torn cloak on his waist. It spoke loud and clear.
"What are you doing Erik?" The voice asked.
"Huh?...who's there?" Erik responded.
"It's me Erik, Asger? You remember, I belong in the wild... But I'm not in the wild anymore. Can you take me back?"
"Yea... A..Asger, of course I can. Do you know the way back out?"
///screams\\\
"I dooo... But I don't know if you're invited to go back out."
"What? Why? I'll bring you back to the wild Asger I promise, just show me how to get out!"
"Nah, those words you said hurt Erik. You never cared, you were never a friend. You're the reason I'm dead. You deserve to die here."
Asger's voice faded, and a new voice came. It was Hanne-16's voice. She sounded far away.
"Erik..why did you leave my hand?"
"Hanne-16? Is that you? I'm sorry I left your hand! Where are you? I've been looking for you."
"No you haven't Erik, you would have found me if you were. I'm pretty far back now, wanna come get me?"
"...I can't...I need to get out of here. I'm sorry Hanne-16."
"Please" Hanne-16 begged. "Don't just leave me here in the dark."
"Hanne-16, you're too far back, I'm almost out I know it."
"Erik...Please don't do this Erik. Please. That sword stole my light, don't leave me in the dark!"
Hanne-16's voice faded away. The next voice came to him, it was very far away. It was his own voice, it was his own voice but it was somehow different. Different from what he was, from who he was.
"It's your fault. Your fault my friends are dead."
"Who are you? Where are you?" Erik said scared.
"I'm you Erik, well I am what you were, you're not you anymore. You're not me anymore. And you're...You're the one....that killed my friends."
The voice began to cry. It faded away into the dark.
Erik felt the final thud against his boot. It was metallic. He searched for it and found the ghost.
The ghost belonged to an unknown guardian who was lost down here. Erik picked it up and played the last recorded message.
/codename jest is chained, left alone. I'm moving in.
