If you voted yes, no, or kinda, comment below why or why not it is or is not "earning". After seeing so much controversy on this subject I want to see what some people have to say, you are all entitled to your opinions so have at it Guardians!!!

Is asking this question a poll?
-
It all depends on how you decide to look at it. What is earning? How do you earn things? I'm asking for real life purposes AND Destiny. The idea of "earning" if hard to define but using the actual definition ( to gain or get in return for one's labor or service) I will have to say: No; you do not earn anything you bought from Xur. You earn the coins and spend the coins as you see fit. Stop, don't try to argue, it's plain and simple. You earn the coins, nothing else. Just because you bought something, it doesn't mean your "earn-menship" transfers to the item you bought. Yes; getting something from RNG is earning the item. Why? Cuz your hours of gameplay are rewarded and whatever item you get from completing a specific task means you earned it. This includes the one thousand ascendant material you got from getting the most kills Nightfall or the gjhallhorn a player in last place got. You know what the loot system is. You can say it's crap and complain that it's unfair, but that's how the game operates. Earn things by completing bounties, finishing strikes or completing raids. You cannot measure luck. Being lucky can never be measured so you cannot say someone got lucky (in regards to the RNG) just because they got something better than you. It's a part of the system. Learn it, accept it and move on. You'll enjoy the game much more if you do.

Edited by Qoolqi: 2/18/2015 11:17:49 PM2 weekly strikes doesn't seem like enough to purchase Gjallarhorn.
-
Not another "earn it" thread smh
-
More than RNG. A lot of us do raids and nightfalls and receive junk. To amass a decent amount of coins you also need to do weeklies. While not hard per say they are time consuming. And you are actually "earning" your coins which you need to buy his wares.
-
You do weekly heroic twice to be able to buy one item so yes
-
The only purpose xur has is to sell exotic items and upgrades which tells me bungie knew players were gonna get the RNG shaft. So yes buying from xur is earned because you have to earn coins to buy exotics, which in turn makes people less butthurt. Xur has been my only exotic option except for one universal remote in my 100+ hours
-
Am I the only one who didn't freak the -blam!- out when i got the gally?
-
Kinda? The only way to earn exotics is through bounties.
-
you actually "earn" it by buying it more than if it just drops.. if you buy it, you had to save the coins etc. I never understood how RNG meant you earned something.. I got 2 leg engrams doing patrols last night.. Did I "earn" them? No they just dropped and I picked them up like so much spilt glimmer...
-
Where's the "who gives a shit" option
-
Yes; you have to earn the strange coins
-
I think it is. Getting an item from xur is like working a job, getting paid and buying what you want. I see rng as winning a big bet in Las Vegas. You earn it when you buy it from xur but it's much more of an exciting/happy moment when you get the drop you've been wanting for with rng. Personally I prefer rng because of its exciting moments.
-
To buy items from Xûr you have to have strange coins. You have to earn the strange coins somehow.
-
Kinda? Nothing is earned you get lucky or you don't.
-
Absolutely. You did the weekly strikes, out in the work and earned the given reward, Strange Coins. You then turned those Coins into an Exotic of your choice, when Xur sells it. You earned the currency, therefore you earned the Exotic gear.
-
Definitely maybe.
-
Yes because you earn the strange coins.
-
You're completely immature if you think you can "earn" anything via Bungie's RNG. This is the stupidest question ever. You could do the hardest content in the game a million times and still not receive what you want. That's not skill based. That's pulling the lever on a slot machine and hoping for a jackpot.

Xûrning

Nothing personal, man, but can you please leave this tired pointless divisive did I mention tired? topic alone?
-
There's is no earning in this game. You either got lucky or you bought it. There's no disputing it. I have everything except hard light. Does that mean I'm better than anyone or worked harder than anyone. No it doesn't.
-
"Kinda" because it's earned, but you don't get quite as much enjoyment as finding it. Example, when I found Suros Regime (very early in the game) I screamed out! But, when my all time fav weapon Red Death came on sale (I was happy) I wasn't quite as happy. And even if I don't use it too much, Red Death is still the coolest gun in the game.
-
Do you boo boo.. Idgaf
-
You can't really earn anything in this game.
