If you voted yes, no, or kinda, comment below why or why not it is or is not "earning". After seeing so much controversy on this subject I want to see what some people have to say, you are all entitled to your opinions so have at it Guardians!!!

Coins are earned.
-
The only way to earn an exotic is to complete a bounty
-
You earned it by buying the game and playing it..... it doesn't matter how many hours you put in to it or how good you are. And if people bitçh at you for that then just simply don't play with them. The most important thing that alot of people forget about destiny is that it is a GAME!!
-
If you grinded the weekly heroic for you coins, then yes you earned them and have a right to go buy something. There are 2 different ways to get gear in this game: Earning and RNGing Earning is when you earn strange coins and go buy something from xur. You could relate this to having a job irl and getting money to pay for food RNGing is when you get anything from the RNG. Either being afk in the crucible, afk in strikes, skipping all the enemies in strikes, or any endgame reward. Even the bounties are RNGing. You have to get them through the RNG, hence its RNGing. You could relate this to a homeless bum who is outside in the cold with a tin cup begging for money. Someone walks by and a $20 falls out of his pocket. The homeless bum doesn't earn that cash as he grabs it before the original owner could get it, but then he gloats to all his friends that he "earned" that $20

I earn anything he sells and I want to buy, just been nothing lately. Sitting at 262 coins and 62 motes, unless he brings heavy ammo or the Ruin Wings, I forgot to get them last time, I will just be racking up more coins.
-
No, but neither is getting it via rng..
-
Earned coins=earned
-
DeeJ said it was. /thread
-
Not really but you earned them just as much but no if you've had it for 3 weeks and only have half of the first upgrade
-
I grinded the Weekly Heroics in order to get the Strange Coins needed to buy an Exotic from Xur. Yes, it is earning.
-
At the end of the day, does it really matter? You have whatever guns and armor you have. No one can take them away, lol!
-
Yes, cuz ya gotta grind to get the coin.
-
I would say yes. Because the same RNG is invloved to pull random strange coins that's used to pull an exotic Plus you do have to actually work for strange coins with the weeklys. So yes it is earning them. If it requires a player putting time in then it's work and earn.
-
You earned the strange coins to get it from weeklies
-
It's all the same
-
When it comes to weapons like ice breaker and jellyhorn some people hate the the idea of others owning them. If everybody has these weapons then entitled elitists that need the attention that comes from having them will feel hurt they're not as popular as other players anymore
-
Your parents hate you yes?
-
I didn't earn my exotics, I obtained them.
-
The only earning in destiny is completing bounties. You earn strange coins of course, but technically you're buying the exotics from xur, not earning them. RNG is pure luck, so no earning there either.
-
I think anything from xur is earned. You did do weekly heroics to get the strange coins for it. But that's my opinion
-
Honestly it's a game The only time you earn it is when you go out get a job and buy the game yourself
-
im still earning the strange coins and mote of lights to buy from Xur. and i technically can "earn" whatever exotic i want since i paid the money for the game.
-
Getting any exotic is earning it. Even if u just have your friends carry u thru raids or get lucky. U still earned it.
-
Yes because you work for the coins. (Weekly heroic) and you get them on all characters so thats a total of 27 a week then it depends if you get them from nightfalls or engrams (i dont count engrams) and then you have to wait for xur to not be a dick and sell the item you want.
-
It has nothing to do with earning. Many on-line games find many players in the exact same spot in the game, be it level, gear, trophies, etc. Some gamers have such fragile egos that wrap up so much of their IRL self worth into a video game they desperately seek alternate takes on reality that makes them somehow "better" than someone else in the exact same spot.... in their minds. They make up cute names for stuff, twist and rationalize in really contorted ways all in a desperate grab for a little ego self-stroking. While it is all rather transparent, it is no longer amusing.

Does it make one feel better to say "I spent x a out of hours playing a game to get something not real!? " If one needs to lord over someone about stuff in a GAME, then they are just sad.. No one really cares because it doesn't effect your game at this point.
