Finally! After fighting off hoards of enemies it's time to fight the boss. You enter the room with your other fire team members right behind you. Suddenly the door closes and you hear an eerie noise while your ghost utters,"This doesn't look good." You look up to see Sepiks Prime ascend down. You remember the last time you defeated him on one of those earth strikes. Sweet! Now for some action! Your buddies got the minions under control so you see a great opportunity for you to unload on the boss; you pull out your trusty Gjallarhorn and fire. Huh, that's weird, usually there is the numbers that show how much damage you do to the boss. Wait a minute.. You look at the upper right corner of your screen and see the challenge: Heavy Weapons won't damage the boss
This is a little bit of something that I though of in Destiny called: The Tunnel Of Fate (name could be different)
This is a game type similar to a strike or raid, but it is meant as something you go to when you have some friends online and you want to do something to get a decent amount of rewards, but it won't take up as much time as a raid.
The basics
(Fire team of at least 4;preferred 6. Level 22+)You and your fire team go through a series of rooms with each room containing some sort of challenge mostly there is just rooms were you have to survive waves of enemies. But in about every other room there is a special room with certain aspects to make it a challenge. Special rooms give you 1 ascend energy or shard with a really small chance for a legendary gun. After about 10 rooms you fight a boss, but the fight also has a certain challenge too. Boss rooms also give you ascend energy and material with a small chance for legendary or exotic. Right after the boss is a checkpoint room; these rooms are only for rest there is no enemies here. From the checkpoint room you can either keep going or leave, but when you all come back next time you will leave off from the checkpoint room. However, the way to lose in this is by having every member in your fire team die. After you die you will be returned to be returned to orbit. Every time you die or leave you will have to wait one day before you can go back. I know that all this might be hard to imagine, let me give you an example: challenge room: there is a room full of shanks, but the the challenge is " enemies only damaged by Melee attacks and grenades" or another challenge room where there is a room full of vandals in it. The catch to this is that there is one stealth vandal(invisible) running around in the room and you must kill him to proceed. Some challenge rooms don't involve killing, instead they are jumping/ parkour puzzles where you have to jump across floating blocks to reach the end. The catch to this is that you have darkness slowing closing over you( I don't know what it's called but it's the effect you get during the vault of glass) and you must get to the end to where there is a light platform that can cleanse you. Boss rooms: these rooms are where you fight a boss from a previous strike/ story in a room with a special challenge. For example: a room where you have to kill the Archon Priest, but the catch to this one is that you can only damage him if you have the "blessing of truth"; which is an effect that starts on a guardian but every minute it moves to a different person. There is also enemies in this room but you don't need need the blessing of truth to kill them. So basically in this room you focus on taking care of the minions while the person that has the blessing hurts the boss until it moves to someone else.
Some ideas of challenges for challenge rooms could be:
Only harm enemies with snipers (or any different gun) and assault riffles( or a different type of gun)
Only harm enemies with solar damage
Jump disabled
Worlock ( or different class) super ability disabled
Friendly fire active (shots can hurt allies) and Grenades also harm teammates
Physical contact with enemies causes instant death
%50 less gravity than normal
Enemies and guardians explode when killed dealing massive damage
Exotic weapons won't harm enemies
Shooting hobgoblins while in their fire shield state causes instant death
Switching guns disabled
Ammo syntheses disabled
Only special weapons harm enemies
Self revive and Titan bubble shield disabled
Enemies can still see invisible guardians

Every once in awhile there will be a special room called a luck room right after a boss and before a save room. This room is two chests next to each other with one chest containing (legendary gun or armor70% exotic gun or armor 30%) but the other chests will instantly kill everyone. The choice is up to the fire team leader; If anyone else interacts with the chest than everyone will automatically die. This room is optional.
There is also one other rare room called party rooms. In these rooms death doesn't matter. What happens in these rooms is that it turns into pvp and you play a mini game, only winner gets rewards which is usually a legendary item. One of these games is last man standing death match. Another one is tag; try not to be tagged because at the end of 20 seconds the person tagged is killed and then someone else is chosen to be it, last man standing wins.
important info
My idea for how to get in is that you need an item called Tunnel Pass which Xur sells for 6 strange coins or 9 motes of light. This allows you to get into the Tunnel of fate. It has two uses. You also have a small chance to get an item called Tunnel ticket from nightfall or crucible. This has only one use.
The way that death is inside the tunnel is like this: If everyone dies in a room and no one can self revive than you lose and go back to orbit. Next time you come back you will start at a checkpoint room.If you beat a room but other people are dead then they will revive and teleport to you.
This is all that I have for now, I to have any ideas for this than please tell me. Remember to up vote if you like this idea

Kind of like the Puzzle Box concept. Incorporate some of the fun puzzle elements like the Lego games (which are awesome unto themselves, just pure fun).
-
Seems like an interesting idea, to be sure.
-
I think this is a very well thought out idea, and this could be a really fun and refreshing mode to the game that a good team would be rewarded for.
-
Reminds me of Bruce Lee's Game of Death :) Like it!
-
Great idea, it's a shame that it'll never be put into the game. Fans have been screaming for a survival mode since launch, Bungie ain't listening !
-
Honestly, this sounds really cool.

Would the rooms be random? I'd like to see a PvE mode in Destiny that is not rigid like the current raids, were teams can learn a specific set of actions and then sleep walk through it every week. Your idea could work for me if the combination of challenge rooms changes randomly every time you enter... or it alters depending on the combination of classes within the team. Or am I silly to trust the disciples of rngesus?

AWSOME idea, not happening and I assume you don't think it will either

No Jumping? How would I reload without emptying the clip.
