Simply put, Communism is an extension of socialism. It believes in the idea that all people should be given the same exact things. In theory, it would be great. No need, no homelessness, etc. The problem is Communism is too tightly-tied to equality in all regards. Socialism, on the other hand is a lot smarter.

If I remember correctly from back in high school, communism is a form of economics although a lot of people seem to think it is a form of governance. You have communism and democratically elected government. But usually it gets associated with militaristic tyranny. Communism is essentially communal wealth, vs. capitalism which centers on individual wealth. Essentially (in theory) every member of society works according to their capabilities and is awarded according to their needs. For example, a janitor scrubbing toilets would essentially be on par with the head person running the building, at the end of the day. However this is all in theory, as I don't think any communist countries have fared too well from it in practice. Most communist countries tend to have been overrun by a person or group with military power to singularly control the populace. There is too much room for corruption and exploitation, and people who work more tend to want more. Who doesn't like being rewarded for hard work? But then the guy barely doing anything next to you gets the same reward at the end of the day....not very motivating. Can make someone disgruntled (look at the Destiny forums complaining of Xurners), enough to overthrow their leader and gather riches for themselves while letting everyone else live in squalor. But again, most of that is a result of dictatorships using communism for the benefit of the few at the expense of the many. Which can also happen in capitalism, but democracy has helped keep checks and balances at least. Until lately, at least....

Communism is a form of economics where everything is controlled by the government. Every person makes the same amount of money because the government redistributes it. Throughout history, communism has failed time and time again, because it removes all incentive to work hard, and because this system cannot stand on it's feet unless total power is given to the government, which is very, very dangerous.

Honestly, I am a supporter of communism theory. Because that's really the only way it has worked so far; in theory. It basically follows the guidelines of everyone being responsible for each other. If you make $200, $100 goes to the community. It's basically like more extreme taxes

Communism is a general idea and Marxism is a one path of that idea? To be honest I don't know.
