Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.
*edit 1*
I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.
*edit 2*
*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.
*edit 3*
People seem to be believe I'm saying stuff never drops. If it says that somewhere in my post (I've tried to reword myself), that's not what I'm saying. Please, read my post over again, especially "edit 2".
*edit 4*
Well, I expected a lot of flaming since my so called theory is far fatched, flawed and simply crappy :P
I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.
Hopefully I will prove myself wrong and get GH tonight... hrhrhhr

I have all 4... Theory debunked
-
Here are the exotics I want Suros Regime Red Death Mida Multi Tool I got the suros regime, but that's not the point, I agree with your idea but I think there are a few exceptions.
-
I agree ! I have 5 ice breakers 3 Suros 4 gjallahorns and 8 no land beyond I stopped counting..... Lol and I cannot for the life of me get a universal remote or a hard light ! :/
-
Every exotic i have i bought from Xur (except like 1 or 2) then continue to get them as drops but never get any weapons i want *Ghorn*... I have come to learn then games RNG just hates me. i have brought countless people through nightfall, crota vog, vog hard, crota hard... and everyone i brought in all have gotten 1 of not all 3 of the 3 guns i am after. Vex, Ghorn, and Black Hammer. and am yet to get any of them
-
Gjally seems to drop for those who already have it more than anything, I have friends who all have it yet time after time it drops for them, I sit smiling while dismantling yet another devil you don't!
-
I believe it!!! I have sniper riffles and shotguns continuously dropping for me but never have I had a decent hand canon land for me. I have given up hope on getting the gally, I figure I just have to be a better player without it. The game does not revolve around a gun, but dam it would make it more fun. Can't control what drops I get, so I'm over it
-
After a 2-3 week break last fall I got my first Vex.... Not even 2-3 weeks later my second. Ive gotten all 3 of my Icebreakers and Suros' as duplicate drops. Just the same as my Universal Remotes. I've always felt that that's how the system worked.
-
I believe this is true and there is some kind of cycle. I can't get a suros. But once I get a weapon its like that same week it drops constantly. My first exotic was thunderlord. Dropped two more times that week. I didn't get an icebreaker until I bought it from xur like 2 months ago or whenever he sold it. After that literally 5 more dropped since. Same pattern. 2 red deaths, 2 ghorn, 7 vex, yes 7. No suros. Oh yea and with my 4 no land beyond. This week finally a new weapon and I get multi tool in nightfall, vog chest right after and I get my second multi tool. Same pattern for armor pieces that drop. So there has to be some type of system where certain exotics are in your specific pool for chances to drop.

Meet Player 3: Has suros, icebreaker, ghorn, thunderlord, nech, vex, and every other exotic Wants universal remote to complete his armory My friend has 3 :(
-
I that were true then almost nobody would have every exotic, but for some reason tons do... It's RNG, accept it.
-
I thought the same thing
-
RNG is RNG, that is all...random.......
-
I've had Suros drop at least 6 or 7 times, but not once have I received Red Death
-
Edited by Proppur: 2/19/2015 8:30:15 PMMeh, no.... RNGesus has handed me every exotic in the game, so it definitely doesn't work that way. (Excluding Nechro; have 3 Eidolon Ally's waiting to receive the Crux) Exotic weapons: • Thorn • Bad Juju (x3) • Invective • Pocket Infinity • Super Good Advice (x2) • MIDA Multi-Tool (x2) • SUROS Regime (x3) • Red Death (x2) • Patience and Time (x3) • The Last Word (x3) • Universal Remote • Truth (x2) • Gjallarhorn (x3) • Ice Breaker (x3) • Plan C (x2) • Hard Light • No Land Beyond • Thunderlord • Dragon's Breath (x3) • Vex Mythoclast
-
Nearing 850 hours and the only exotic I'm missing is of course gjallahorn. Hell I can't even get hunger of Crota all I get is the -blam!-ing trash fusion rifle
-
Once developed, the RNG is out of control, aside from basic perimeters that can be set. You'd have to be arrogant or paranoid to believe that there are keyboard warriors watching you play every moment that you're signed in so that they may determine what drops for you and when. If you don't have something, keep playing. Don't blame your poor luck on subterfuge. Just blame Bungie's shitty loot system.
-
Xur already sold it that's how most of you idiots have it anyways
-
Hope i made sense.
Your post is coherent, but it definitely does not make sense. Bungie doesn't have the resources (apparently) to fix glitches in the raids or to add any of the raid matchmaking, in-game grimoire, etc. that the fan-base has been clamoring for. They definitely don't have the resources to individually monitor every account and make sure that they aren't dropping certain weapons or to check and see how many Gjallarhorns have dropped on any given day.
-
RNG isn't controlled. It's called programmed probability. You obviously never took a math course or went to school. Here's how the code looks in easy form: If(Deathsinger dead) -then(drop loot) --for(drop loot) -let(exotic drop chance =.5%) %* note: exotic drop chance is = .5%/# of exotics for a Specific exotic weapon
-
If you think about this logically then I see two major plotholes in this theory: 1. Xur - Xur has already sold three of the four "most prized" exotics. Why bring a concept like Xur into a game you are trying to control? Chaos theory at its finest. If anything his mere presence completely undermines the pinky and the brain-esque weapon flow control you are referring to. 2. They would have had to know before the game was released exactly what weapons were going to be prized over others. This is the major flaw. Who knows exactly how a community is going to react to a variable until you introduce a variable? Bungie are total novices into the MMO market therefore unless they spent some serious coin on psychologists and did some market research they'd be taking a pretty big punt. I can't see a company spending millions just to annoy the heck out of its player base. Some people just get lucky and others don't. Look at the lottery!
-
your theories flawed. bungie doesn't have to time to choose who gets what, unless that's randomly generated. I got a ghorn, thunderlord and suros in one day from the nightfall. I can see where your coming from but I don't think that's how it works.
-
i've been playing Destiny daily almost ever since i purchased it. i'm wondering if i decide to take a break, say for a week or so, would the game start throwing me the weapons and armor i want or need for 32 finally? definitely found myself contemplating a break lately...
-
Edited by Smith5084: 2/19/2015 4:14:31 PMI don't think it's necessarily predetermined, but I do think that the system is weighted toward dropping items that have already dropped for you... Been playing since day one, and I've gotten Truth 10 times now... 4 times in the last month.. Had never gotten Gjallarhorn up until Wednesday of last week... Two more have dropped since then... Got my second one on the Deathsinger the same day that the first dropped, and the third from the exotic chest in the VOG.
-
I see what you mean, and I've had doubts about true randomness myself, but I don't know that it is a thing that was put there by design. I've always chalked it up to a bug in the RNG that likes to give out duplicates. Considering all the other bugs that exist, it doesn't seem like a stretch.
-
Prime example... In my regular raid group, the same guy has already gotten the Crux 4 times... Hasn't dropped for anyone in our group but him...
-
I have been thinking about this recently too. I don't think that people will NEVER get them, but I do believe they have a lower chance of dropping than for someone else.
