*First Speculation*
Lately my group and I have been venturing back into the Vault of Glass to attempt a discovery of a new chest. Not finding anything a long time ago, we were discouraged by the fact that we believed there wasn't anything left to be found. Then, this comment was found on Youtube... My friend sent this to me but he is unsure of the name of the video and we are now unable to find the comment. Either way, the quote that this person said, is from a Bungie employee. My friend claims to have heard of this "LRI" guy and said that he MIGHT be one of the raid designers. He does assure to me that he does work for Bungie, though. The quote/picture proof is in the link below.

On to the speculation. The quote makes mention of the chest to have "lied between future and past, but not present." As we know, the only time in between the future and past IS present. This must mean it represents something physical. We have considered this to meaning something about the portal in between the jump puzzle and atheon's room, but then my attention turned elsewhere... Whilst activating the gates to summon Atheon, I remembered how the "past" portal is on the left and the "future" portal is on the right. Then I looked in between them... That little island used for killing Atheon many times over. It COULD be considered a large pedestal. It's the only thing in between "past and future." Could this possibly be where the chest could spawn? Maybe both portals must be kept open for the entirety of the boss fight? Could it have been under our noses (literally) all along? Unfortunately after killing Atheon, we were killing instantly due to being lost in time, even though he died. We were unable to look around by even going back into the portals to look around again.
It gets better. We automatically assume that Atheon must be defeated to retrieve this chest because the quote also says "Time is broken, but it can be fixed, for people have mended it before and left without questioning, what changed." We assumed that killing Atheon will "fix" time which is why we believe something happens on that middle island block AFTER the fight.
Something that really assures this for me is that it says "for people have mended it before and left without questioning, what changed." This could mean that MANY of us have completed the VOG, but didn't look around enough to see what changed. This quote almost seems to assure that something happens AFTER the fight.
What do you guys think? Do you have hope for there to be a chest here? What are your thoughts? What else have you heard?
Here's to hoping that some people still care for the Vault of Glass. Please share what you think and spread the post so that others can see our ideas. I look forward to reading any responses!
Edit1: I also realize that the commenter says that the quote is about that "secret cave" in the jump puzzle area. The employee DID NOT say anything about that cave. He only made mention of the past and future deal. Though if it is, then maybe there must be a way to return there AFTER the atheon kill?
Edit2: Made it to Trending! :D Hearing some great ideas and suggestions
Edit3: If you want to explore sometime, I play on the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.
*Second Speculation*
Most of us have seen that tiny hole in the side of the jump puzzle room right? If you have then I'm sure we have all thought the same thing... chest? Well I am not sure whether this was Photoshopped or is legit but my friend found a picture of a chest sitting on a little rock. Could this rock be the "pedestal" mentioned in the quote? Maybe something must be triggered to summon the chest here? Maybe there are actually two missing chests? Picture link below.

"Proof of the 6th/7th chest during the Dads of Destiny tag along live stream last week. It was confirmed by Lead World Artist: Rob Adams, and Senior Raid Designer: Gavin Irby"
And yes I know he said he misheard the question, but it was pretty straight forward. It could be just as easy that Bungie didn't actually want us to know 100%. Plus, he didn't say there wasn't anything else. There is still hope. If that Christmas post is true, then that might be some kind of proof.

The only vast unexplored area appearing to lead somewhere in the vault is shown in this video. How to access it on the other hand is a different matter. After making the video and further exploration i discovered that the top of the tunnel/entrance is actually the first hole you encounter in the vault next to the floating rock at the end of the video. This can be tested easily by yourself by sending someone into the vault and you watch their gamer tag move around to different areas whilst you wait in the glitched area. Maybe there is a trigger to remove the kill zone so you can access it .... maybe it's just cut content.

has any team killed atheon while the shiled remained in the past or future? leave the relic holder in the portal and defeat atheon while someone holds that portal open? does the shield disappear? is it possible a team could leave a guardian in past and future, 2 guys holding both portals open and 2 guardians deal the final blow?? is there a kill switch inside the future or the past that if all 6 guardians went in and were able to activate said switch, would bring atheon to you for a whole new battle?? what if by some crazy bit of luck the guardian holding the relic stays in . . . lets say the past, and then 3 guardians are teleported to the past again, how does that work? just spitballing here, none of this may even be relevant but i fig i would try. also i cant see where hard or normal mode would make a difference in find the chest if its there. i believe my clan and i may start testing different methods this weekend. if interested in exploring on ps4 shoot me a friend request on ps4 and lets try some stuff out. gt is the same as on here. happy hunting

Things we know: 1. When teleported by atheon to the past or present, it's an exact replica of the Atheon room. 2. this would imply the room still functions the same, regardless of being past or present. 3. After opening the correct portal, players in the present can actually go into the portal and help kill oracles, as long as one person remains outside to keep the portal open. 4. After Times Vengence, the Relic disappears. 25 second buff. Things to think about: 1. Does the Relic Still disappear if it stays in the place you were teleported? 2. Can the portal be activated by the people that were teleported? What about the opposite portal? 3. If the portal can be activated, what happens when you run into the opposite portal instead of the correct one? After exiting the portal (normally), instead of fighting atheon, what happens if the relic holder entered the opposite portal in the present time (ex- teleport to the past, kill oracles, exit portal back into the present, go into future portal). One final note, time stops after you kill atheon, it's not a bug. Bungie was made aware of this and specificly stated it was not a bug. Therefore you are neither in past, present nor future, because time has stopped, it has become a fixed point in time. Frozen in the moment. Now apply some of that info to the lore cards . . .

Atheon has 6 letters, atheon past/present/future, 666, also look at the layout of the portals!!!! Its a triangle with atheon being the all seeing eye in the middle! Do you really expect us to believe atheon's purple lazer thing is hot enough to melt steel beams??? Illuminati confirmed? Clearly atheon is holding out the truth from us and we deserve answers! Atheon did 9/11 and there is in fact a 6th chest in vog, vote stonewall to be your king and ill clean up the corruption in destiny

Let's break down the riddle first. "You have found a pedestal." People have come to think that the middle platform can be considered a pedestal but I in fact believe that the whole room is the pedestal. "The chest was there at some point." Obviously the key word is WAS, because we cannot see it. "It lies between future and past..." I don't know but the way that's put together automatically means to me that past and future are physical objects and do does everybody because they find them to be the two gates. Maybe I am wrong but I have never heard them referred as past and future but them again I haven't really read the Vault's grimoire. But my point is that there are two different planets. And if the gates are future and past then we kinda mixed them up. The left would be future and the right would be past. And then it would make sense because the riddle states "future and past" and most of us happen to read things from left to right which places the gates correctly in the riddle. "...but not in the present." Now this is where I think we got it backwards. If the gates are physical then the last line must definitely be literal. Meaning that it isn't in the present where we stand after but someWHEN else entirely. That's backed up by the next line. "Time is broken, but it can be fixed..." This tells us that the chest is lost in time. "...for people have mended it before and left without questioning, what changed." Now we all know that in the VoG time is broken due to Atheon being time's conflux itself. Meaning he is time in itself. And most of us have killed Atheon and left without checking out the surrounding area. Which could be the last part of the riddle meaning directly that the chest is definitely around after the fight. Somewhere or somewhen. Well I apologize if I confused you guys but I just wanted to break it down a little bit.

One of my theories is that the chest will only reveal itself if you put up the relic shield over it.

Been a while since I viewed this topic. Surprised I'm still getting responses!
-
Past and future, maybe the past is the beginning of the raid and the future is the end of the raid meaning it's somewhere after the entrance and before Atheon... I know it's very vague, however has ever inch of the falls between Templar and gorgon been explored? Maybe it's not down but up? Everybody is too busy to get to the gorgon chest but it might be before that chest I don't know?

The line in Time's Vengeance: "Guardians make their own fate" has baffled me for so long. If there's anything after Atheon I believe it's due to one of these two things: 1) Do not damage Atheon while T'sV is active This would mean people who are guarding the plates would need to lay in to him whilst the Oracle team are making their way through 2) Do not damage Atheon at all This is something that's been in my mind for a while as well, as it seems everything is set up so Guardians rush through it but the last line of his Grimoire (after talking about his purpose) is odd: "This is all speculation". Why add that line in at all if what was previously said either is correct or is wrong and something we'll find out in Destiny 2+? It just doesn't make sense either way. If I had to pick one to be the most likely I'd say it's #2. I know he'll enrage eventually and Minotaurs will come out but it would be interesting to find out what actually happens if you keep going on with it. And before anyone says about how the cheesers who pushed him off would've triggered one of these two things, I don't believe that would be the case because: 1) Grenades do damage and he dies - failing #2 2) T'sV wouldn't have been activated and therefore we wouldn't have had the chance to decide on how we 'make our own fate' - failing #1 & #2 If anyone is down for this on PS4 then let me know - we can do it on Normal.
-
Im not good at making lores and these explanations but after reading atheons grimoire I have a feeling it may be connected info to where the chest is.pls add those info to these theories cause I like these kinda stuff even though im not good at it
-
Do you think that after killing Atheon sitting there for awhile gives you "times vengeance" again has to do with anything?
-
You'll only get useless materials from it if there was one.
-
Maybe the chest will spawn if there is nobody on the middle platform or if it hasn't been used the whole time?
-
What happens if you open both portals after killing Atheon, can you still enter them both and look around? Seems like a good place to start.
-
Maybe the chests will contain the rest of the storyline.
-
Edited by iRumbleBox: 2/23/2015 5:53:48 PMInteresting topic. When does the vault close? Does it stay open if nobody dies? Can one player stand in a bubble in the doorway to keep it open? Maybe after the atheon kill the portal outside the vault becomes active? Travel the portal and there is something to be found.. Who knows? I would like to. I think the dev team should drop hints until it is found. Maybe this is why the fight originally teleported the three characters that were furthest back? They didn't want anyone holding the door open? Just my speculation.
-
Maybe Atheon is the chest? He's is standing Ibetween the two portals? Maybe you have to do something to activate it?
-
I would love to raid the VoG with you this week so we can explore the area you are talking about. It sounds fun. I'm on the 360. If your interested comment back. If not I understand
-
Has anyone thought that this may be just a huge trolling effort by Bungie....don't get me wrong I enjoy this game a lot and play everyday but it just seems like a hoax to me.
-
Very interesting, a good reason to have a nosey around the VOG.
-
Aren't there people that data mine destiny to find out information? I'm sure they would have found out the secret if there were extra chests.
-
Has anyone tried destroying the time gates in Atheons room after killing him? Kinda like in the gate lord mission?
-
Probably already been done but has anyone tried going back towards the jumping puzzke after killing Atheon? There's a broken teleport in the distance (read somewhere that it's apparently possible to get there). I mean, the door stays open unless you wipe, so maybe the secret is just to do Gatekeepers and Atheon flawlessly.
-
This is going to sound insanely stupid but I think the chest Is in the bump on the left of the center island at atheon. I think if you stand on the past activator with the mythoclast and the future activator with pocket infinity and shoot it at the same time it blows open revealing the chest.
