If you guys cared this much about actual real life problems, the world would be a better place. Go fight Isis, solve world hunger, or anything that actually helps people. No matter what, the kid decided to let someone play on his account. Don't give your stuff to strangers. If you are too young to know the difference then your Parents should not let you play a "rated T" game. The end

  • Just out of interest how old are you Teen, adult what. Because I'm 42 and have kids of my own. What kirmit did was cruel plain and simple. All kids at that age want "the best" and if some stranger turns up and acts all pally OF COURSE they are going to do it. Kids are trusting until we make them mistrust. They are children, it's the job of adults to look after them. To not inflict mental anguish (because that's what they did) I know it's a game but FFS he's 11, he doesn't care about ISIS, famine, fossil fuel. He just wants to go to school tomorrow and tell his friends he's got 3 lvl 32 characters.

I'm 27 to be exact. Yeah, what he did was cruel but you made a great point. We must teach our children before an incident happens. When it does happen we must keep teaching them. We should not spoil them after they mess up by trusting strangers. We shouldn't reward them with items (in this case to restore his characters). He needs to feel the hardship to truly learn and become someone great one day.Today it's game, what about when it is something serious? We should never disable our kids by swooping in and making everything better all the time, even if it is the initial instinct of being a parent.
the best could one day be in a van filled with puppies and candy.I would rather they learn that not all strangers can be trusted so that something worse does not happen.
• So by your logic, if it is a guy with a van and puppies. Afterwards your response would be "well you won't do that again will you" ! ! C'mon he didn't get rewarded, they gave him a present because he was victimised by an adult. I'm not saying that child abuse is parrallel to character deletion but the kid was upset. It was cruel sick move by Kirmit (and I truly believe he did do this) I'm not condoning death threats to the guy or his mum (this is after all first and foremost a game) let's get some perspective. But firstly pulling that shot is wrong, pulling it on a kid is cruel and wrong. But then going off on one because someone tried to cheer that kid up and venomous comments at the kid........are you for real ?

  • First World problems lol. And I like to talk about ISIS and ending world hunger in places that care. This is a Destiny related topic so it's being discussed in the official Destiny forums. There's something wrong with that?

  • They are truly first world problems. Yes, these are destiny forums and it may be destiny related but it doesn't make it useful or important. It's just the same gossip over and over. I wish the forums had anything meaningful "destiny related". I have to sort through all the garbage to get to a decent post. It feels like middle school gossip, "oh did you see who got beat up?" , "that kid should get suspended for what he did!". None of these people truly care about the kid. They just love that gossip. The same gossip the fuels the industries in the real world.

It doesn't have to go to the extreme as curing cancer but meaningful game related. Post that actually help people. I myself started running a post to give people gorgon chest. It might not be much but it helps some people.Meaningful stuff that benefits the community. It's like reading a gossip magazine that just prints the same edition day after day.

  • At least he only lost two characters in a game. A lot of worse things could have happened and have happened to kids online.

  • Because fighting ISIS and solving world hunger are as easy as that. You're allowed to have more than one cause, you know. And if you can tell me you never watched a movie or TV show, or played a game you were supposedly too young for, then you can hold on to your stupid age comment. Destiny shouldn't even BE rated "T".

  • The problem that is that in today's society we are rescuing kids too quickly. This has caused these kids to not the develop the same life skills they did 30 years ago because these white knights are swooping in too early. We are removing the need for them to navigate the hardships themselves. Today, it is a simple game but tomorrow he may be president or hold some other important role in society. What will he do then? They start believing that nothing has real consequences and that someone will rescue them. That is not how the real world works. We are disabling kids by picking them up before they even hit the ground. He would have gotten over the disappointments of failure but he will never get over being spoiled by others. Keep treating people like him as fragile and he will grow up to be fragile.

  • We have all those age limit laws in place for a reason. The fact is that regardless of what you think, twitch and this game have an age limit of 13 years. It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with them. I'm guessing few people here over 13 would have given that guy access to their account. Yes, the kid probably could have gotten the game in a store without the proper age. The same could be said about an alcoholic drink. His parents may or may not have allowed it. In this case, they did allow it since his own mother posted the video on her YouTube page. Yes, anti-bullying is a cause but that not what is going on here. All I see hatred, gossip, and trolling. Most of you don't really care for the kid. What have you done to help the kid if you feel that you are doing something positive? No, acknowledging something is wrong in your mind is not enough. It is just the start. You have to change and show that change to everyone around you by action.

  • Actually I posted on the kid's YouTube video and offered to help him run content. What other action could I take? And I agree that age restrictions serve a purpose ... But to chastise this kid, when a huge portion of the population does the same thing, is asinine. And in most cases, hypocritical.

  • You have to realize that not all minds are the same. I have played video games since before Super Nintendo and I have never given access to my account to any stranger. Some games even have account sharing restrictions for this reason. There is not really much you can do in this case. The most you could have done is added him to your friends and chased him around. He is not the first person to have his account deleted. He was just one of the few that actually got the attention. He didn't get hacked so he shouldn't get any special treatment. He shouldn't get chastised or put on the cross either. This was just a good lesson for him. I would help him too, the same way I help others that need help. As for his accounts getting restored, no they shouldn't. I also don't think the guy who did it should get banned either, even tho it wasn't a nice thing to do.

  • But it is rated Teen, period. This drivel is not a "cause". This is just more voyeuristic busy-body gossip for every little keyboard know-it-all to weigh in on.

  • Right. Rated Teen, which means nothing. The kid could have walked into the store and bought it himself. And anti-bullying is, in fact, a cause.

  • He could have, and the store could have gotten in trouble. Just because you think it is a silly rule, does not make it less of a rule. Oh, so all of this bitchy, hate filled posts on here are for anti-bullying? You can try and sell that horse piss to somebody else, I ain't buying it.

  • So being upset is not enough for you huh? Just acknowledging something is wrong is not enough? We have to start every post with a statement about anti-bullying? Mkay. And honestly you're a hypocrite about the age thing.

  • No, you can be full of crap without the opening line. You, nor most anyone else on here give to rusted poops about the kid or the scenareo. Stop lying to others, and yourself. This is nothing but drama that people just love to eat up. "Oh, look at Kim whats-her-face!" "Oh, did you hear about that kid?" Hmm... How am I a hypocrite, exactly? Are you supposing that I am too young for the game? Or maybe, at some point in my existance, you are sure I had access to something I should not have? Regardless, that does not make it ok. If I had, and been caught, I would be subject to the rules just as this kid should be.

  • As I said in another reply, I offered to help the kid. What else am I supposed to do about it exactly, aside from remain vocal against people like this Kermit guy? And clearly the kid's parents took no issue with him playing this game or streaming, rendering the age restriction null and void in any legal sense. And yes, it's hypocritical because I'm sure on several occasions in your life, you bent or broke the rules. Now you're telling me he should be punished despite the fact that his parents clearly allowed it.

  • Ok, keep telling yourself you are an activist. That's adorable... So, because mommy says it's ok... Other restrictions be damned? Shows what a great mother she must be. Probably why she did not teach the kid not to cheat or trust strangers... Hmm... Did I not say if I broke rules I would be subject to consequences, just as this kid should? Yep... I sure did.

  • Never said I was an activist. Just said you can have more than one cause at a time. Yes you did say that. What you are conveniently leaving out is that this kid broke no rules as far as the age restriction. It's so parents can be informed. His parents were informed. So yes, other restrictions be damned. The parents have every right to override those restrictions. But you just keep justifying Kermit's actions and making the victim the bad guy. If you got off of your high horse, and dropped the holier-than-thou attitude, you might be able to see things for what they are.

  • And as I said, it is hardly a cause. At most, this is a case of cyber bullying, and that is even a stretch. It is just another example of someone being foolish and then not learning from said mistake. Meanwhile everyone else is "up in arms" over game data being deleted. Did he not break any rules? Are you sure? I am pretty sure cheating, or attempting to do so is a rule for Destiny... His parents were informed? He was not even informed, on not trusting strangers. Not to cheat. Not to give access to his account away, with which he could have done so much more than just delete a game file. No, it is not myself on a high horse. You are yet another in a long line of self righteous dolts. At not point have I said Kermit was right, or should not be punished. You assume as much because I am not some bleeding heart (or pretend one, as most of you are). You see, it is possible to not choose a side, yet have an opinion. I am stating logic, without the presumptuous air or "feeling" or "morals" people hide behind. It is quite simple... I think that most rules in place on games, internet and real life are ridiculous. However, they are in place and as such must be adhered to. That goes for everyone, regardless of age or any other pretenses one tries to hide behind.

  • And that is precisely why you are, in fact, on a high horse. You preach that everyone must obey every rule, always, no matter how ridiculous. There are a multitude of examples where that is flawed logic, but I can see referring to any will do no good. I'm sure you always obey every rule you're ever given. You also state, more or less, that anyone who has picked a side in this is wrong to have done so, and that only your opinion on the matter is valid. Anything else is being "self-righteous." People see what the kid got as being unjust. Many agree that the kid was in the wrong to try to cheat (even the kid himself), but the level of punishment he received, not only in the form of his characters being deleted, but in people like you chastising him even after his admitted mistake, is unfair. He's 11 after all. And your rants toward the parents and kid do infer you support what happened (Kirmit's actions), whether that was your intent or not. And if you think this isn't a moral issue, then you may as well beam back up to the Enterprise Mr. Spock. Clearly we're getting nowhere on this. I have to go solve world hunger anyway, and I'm pretty sure you have a parenting class to teach.

  • That is not a "high horse", which would infer that I think I am better or arrogant. I have not implied, nor said such a thing. Certainly, one could argue all manner or reasons to break rules. I could easily justify killing someone, but it is still a broken rule. There are still consequences for one to deal with. Perhaps, if the kid had lost his toons and had to start over on his own, an ind the process, learned a lesson... Then maybe the troll would have been a sufficient "punishment". Instead, all the white knights in the world came out to power level the kid right back up. He then goes on to brag about it and how Bungie will give him Fate of All Fools. So, whatever lesson he should have learned is overshadowed by, "because I'm a little kid, everyone coddles me and I can do no wrong". So what happens the next time he runs across a stranger with far worse motives than trolling? Right or wrong is not the issue in choosing sides over this matter. Some people cannot help themselves, it is the way of the internet that everyone thinks their opinion is overly valued and must be known to all. It is also the voyeuristic, attention seeking nature so many are inclined to. It is why "reality TV" does so well. Everyone wants to be in other's business, to talk about it and compare themselves on some misbegotten level. Sure, there are some genuinely nice people that care and all that, but by and large, most just love drama. That is why this "story" is still going on after so long.

  • I really enjoyed your debate with the other gamer. I agree completely. The kids needs to learn from his mistake. Everyone swooping in to the rescue is disabling him and making him arrogant.
if I was his dad, I would not have posted the video on YouTube. I would have deleted his third character and made him level all 3 up for crying to me about it (for getting tricked while attempting to participate in cheats).
It's like if you are 11 years old and let strangers in your house and they break your stuff. Your parents wouldn't just buy you new stuff. He needs to learn. I don't think he learned his lesson if he bragging on his twitch account. I don't know his situations but his parents are not teaching him the proper way. They are just enabling him, along with most of the destiny community.
