In all of the cutscenes I've ever seen, I've never seen master chief to have hunter attributes. If anything he goes head into things and blows everything up. Including giant rings and ships. I'd say he's more like a warlock always attempting to gain more knowledge and is an aggressive fighter like a Titan. And he does read space books.
