Character Customization Suggestions: Class Items and the Guardian Outfitter
Eva Levante is one of the game's least-visited NPCs. Let's make her little corner of the Tower a little more interesting by giving her some new things to do:
- Make changes to your Guardian's physical appearance (hair, paint/makeup, markings)
- Offer shaders that can be applied to your entire armor set (as they currently function), but also allow for the re-coloring of individual armor pieces. Individually colored pieces can then be saved as a custom set.
- Offer custom paint jobs for your sparrow and ship.
How do we manage all these shaders?
- A new menu accessible both in the Tower, near Eva Levante and in the Companion App
- Three menu subcategories: Ship, Sparrow, and Armor/Guardian
- Display the model for the current item to be customized, with available shader/customization options displayed in a grid. Unlocked shaders are displayed as they currently are in the equipment menu (showing the basic color scheme), while shaders which have not yet been unlocked are either displayed as grey boxes (giving some visual indication as to how many the player has yet to collect) or simply not displayed at all. Class items add a nice bit of visual flair, but I think they could be just a tad more awesome:
- Legendary/Exotic class items that offer passive bonuses to your character (increased glimmer from Crucible matches, increased Sparrow durability, etc)
- Class items affect your Guardian's emotes/gestures (a cape that gives you a new wave or dance animation for example). There are multiple gestures available in Dark Souls for a reason, folks; people love this stuff.
Just as an aside... When a player points to an item of interest, the context of the gesture should be displayed on-screen. When I wave to someone, I see the message 'Mighty Sandwich waves to [Player Name]', so when I point to a treasure chest, everyone in the vicinity should see the message 'Mighty Sandwich points to/has found/has discovered a loot cache'. The same could also go for Dead Ghosts and various resources available on each planet.
Let me know what you think.
