Any other family peeps out there have to balance Destiny with work, kids and a wife/girlfriend? My wife puts up with Destiny but it's mostly because I don't play till kids are tucked in and read to and I try and watch a show of my wife's choosing before jumping on. Stay on late get up early... Worth it!
What is everyone's ritual for getting to Destiny without getting in trouble with the family?
Edit: I love that I'm not alone in this. I can't believe how many people have the identical schedule as mine! Must be why I always find good randoms when I'm on, we are all family men. #destinydadsunite
Edit: We got our first Toxic Troll response. So I would like to give the award for biggest buzzkill to SEANY, You earned it bro.
Edit: WOW GUYS AND GALS!!! I woke up to hundreds more comments and 99% of them are positive! It's amazing to see so many good family peeps finding a healthy balance between gaming, work and family. You people are amazing and I'm not sure I've smiled so much reading these posts.
Edit: over 1000 replies!!!! Nice to see so many awesome people out there and hardly any trolls! Stay real guardians.

Story of my life bro. Let's just say I've learned to solo me some nightfalls and raids.
-
I play only during weekends from 8:00 to 11:30 when my two older kids are in the slopes skiing the rest of the week it is almost impossible to get some time to play (ps vita is fine for patrols while my wife watches a show.... But it's no good to make daily or roc or anything more complicated).... Apart from the life of a lawyer which leaves no free time at all.... Including weekends

Edited by NinjaJohnno: 3/4/2015 1:33:32 PMnot alone at all mate. I fit playing round my daughters routine, I play a few games before work, in the evening while my wife's busy. At the weekends while my wife works and I have my daughter I login when she is down for her nap. Family always comes first though.
-
My misses hates destiny my fault i play it all the time causes rows but i have played games all my life so i ant gona change
-
The responsibility of grown men. We hv 2 juggle time between family n fun. Wouldnt change it. Gotta love ur fam
-
Another one of these. Oh lawd.
-
I usually don't play during the weeks due to son and wife but that's ok I have a spare day in the weekend to do with what I please and playing destiny saves me money on those days hahaha
-
Literally do the exact same thing. My daughter is only 1 though, so she's fairly easy to put to sleep
-
My pull out game too strong
-
That's exactly what I do.
-
My girlfriend understands my destiny time...
-
As a uni student I find it hard at times to juggle between study, socializing and games haha. I can't imagine the struggle of Family, work and games... Therefore I commend you on making time to play games with the already such little time you have.
-
I'm lucky enough that my Mrs doesn't give me any shit, and that's the reason why I don't take the piss. As for the toxic trolls? They infest this place, and I guarantee you IRL they are emotional or literal punchbags and don't have the balls to stand up for or defend themselves.
-
I do the exact same thing bro almost to a T wake up work, get off at 5 come home do some stuff around the house then get the baby settled and to sleep, eat, watch a show with the wife then play some destiny till late then rinse and repeat
-
Its hard work juggling family, work, and play. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Three little ones 2, 6, and 12, and wife all wanting attention. But they come first. I find it easier to try and spread activities out throughout the week. Example, Tuesday night is always reserved for Nightfalls and Weekly Heroics. Thursday night gets the bounty grind. Weekends (usually sunday) are reserved for hitting LFGs and Raiding.
-
Luckily my wife enjoys the game, probably a little more then I do. Also my children are older now and three of the four play the game as well. We set aside time on Tuesday to complete nightfalls, then on Wednesdays to complete weeklies. I have Saturday morning available to raid as wife goes to work at 6am, children get up at 8am. Wife and I play most nights for an hour or so before we go to sleep and after the children are suppose to be a sleep.

That is me too. I'm waiting for my two boys to be old enough to play destiny so that we can mount a coup and wrestle control of the TV before 10pm.
-
I'm a father of 3 boys: 9, 11 and 1.5! The two older ones play football, basketball, lacrosse, baseball as well as wrestle (I coach 3 out of 4 of those), so needless to say I don't get very much time off! My two big guys play Destiny with me (weekends only, no video games on weeknights), which has been a blast! It gets frustrating trying to get the younger one through some of the tougher nightfalls, and the two times we tried a raid was a disaster (but hilarious, kids say the darnedest things). Glad to see all these other "older" gamers still going strong!

Edited by MurrayPoppinsYawl: 3/4/2015 1:03:47 PMI wake up an hour early on weekdays to run raids and weekly strike/NF. My wife also typically gives me one evening a week to play without any grief. Weekends I play late nights. Lots of gaming while my wife and son sleep.

Back in my married days, I handled gaming the same way. I'd work a 10-12 hour shift in a factory (now an office dweller), go home spend time with the family, stay up ridiculously late, rinse & repeat. As the get older, you'll have more time for your hobbies, but you will miss how it is now. Good work Sir, keep it up. Mine started gaming after watching me play my Dreamcast back then, went & got them a GameCube, Mario kart & Mario party. Now, they're older & we play together.

2, 3, and 9 year old, career, evening classes at the community college 2 nights a week. I get off at 3pm, my wife gets off at 5pm and picks up the kids often. That's my 2 hour window to crunch bounties, & nightfalls. I normally cook dinner, get the kids tucked into bed then back on around 8 or 9. While I don't have enough time to do bounties on all 3 characters everyday. I am lucky where my characters are at, leveling a single piece of gear and a few weapons and the companion app makes moving guns a breeze. There are days I don't get to play at all, which is fine, you have to knock out bounties as efficiently as possible. Weekends I get up at 5 am out of habit so there is a few hours I get to play as well. My wife is tolerant and my 9 year old plays too so it all works out. I have had 6 hours Saturdays when the weather is bad, but the evenings are dedicated to the kiddos.
-
My wife plays so it's not that bad on me. We've had to adjust and only play when my daughter is asleep as to not cut into family time but it's not bad
-
I'm in a similar boat. Wife and 2 kids. 1 year old and 3 year old. Work fulltime. Destiny time is after the kids are sleeping which is usually around 8pm EST. Tuesday nights are designated Nightfall and Heroic nights. Wednesday to Monday are Raid nights. I try and do all activities before reset. Sometimes it happens other times it doesn't. Looking for a PS4 clan with a similar situation and schedule. Would like to have a solid Raid team on a weekly basis to ensure I can get both raids done over 3 characters. I've learned to function with 5 hours of sleep.
-
I think the hardest thing for a family man suck as myself is, finding a group for raids. Sitting on LFG to do the these run kill time and frustrate me to no end, when I'd rather beat Croats end. Doesn't help when I still haven't got my Ghorn 😟. But yes stay up "late" wake up super early. Just for a quick fix.

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!!
-
Another one that shares your pain. I tend to stay up after the GF has gone to sleep as that is now the only me time i get to see just how little progression i can make in this frustratingly addictive game. Its annoying watching all those level 31-32's jumping around with their exotics and complaining how they keep getting duplicates of exotics i'd like just one please lol. if your a PSN user hit me up if your ever on WhtANightmare
