With no visible rules and the ability to hide posts/threads allowing you to moderate what you see is there any point for moderators?

Nope.
With no visible rules
I do however need to point out the error there. There ARE rules. They are easy to find and easy to follow.

We will just have to see.

Giorgio is telling you^

There was never a point! Yes, I made it suckers, 8 years no bans! Wooooooo Eat it Ninja, PieRats Rule!
-
Yes they are.

Moderators are still needed. With impersonation now a possibility, as well as the practical openness of the site, moderators still have a role, though it's less seen as we can sort of self-moderate most issues.
-
I don't know. But obviously mods are still needed, just not as many now.
-
Although I can speak only from the perspective of a private group moderator, the new forums seem to have made moderation significantly more difficult. I'm sure the rules will be returning in some form or another, but that isn't what I'm referring to. I certainly hope the moderation crew are being as vocal about their concerns as the user base appears to be.

I love how Ken can never become a mod.

We still have duties, they are however, far less visible and have less of a direct input or impact onto member's Bungie.Net experience. So, as to "is there a point"? I would imagine that it would probably depend on what you thought that we were here for in the first place.
