Rules?

Okay, this not a jab at our fellow members who happen to be moderators. Nor is it a jab at any of our fellow members who happen to also be employees. I know you all work hard and have worked hard to make this site a great one. While I know I can mute or hide someones post if I am offended in any way, shape, or form, are there any rules other than the ToS? It's just that I am seeing things posted that would not fly on the old format. Threads are being posted that would have been locked. OP's of such threads would have been banned as well. There is use of foul language also. However, I have yet to see any shock site posts or pronz posts. If the moderators have and are taking care of such posts, thank you. I don't visit other forums like reddit or 4-chan, but I have looked at them in the past. It seems like just about anything goes out in the mains now here on Bungie. If it is totally left up to each individual reader to moderate via muting or hiding posts as they see fit, then what purpose do the moderators serve now? Are you all just question answering and or pointing people in the right direction? Has the B.net become just another 4-Chan or reddit? I would hope that there is some sort of level of standards, professionalism, civility, and just plain good manners that are to be expected from myself, my fellow members, and of course employees. My purpose in writing this post is only to learn how this new system works.

  • It looks to me like Bungie wholly intended to let people hide/ignore users and topics and posts they don't like. With the intention to leave it up to individual users as to what they're comfortable seeing and what they don't want to see. I think this is a huge leap forward. Now people have the ability to, and should therefore intentionally try to moderate for themselves. The really bad things will still crop up, but they will be handled as they always have. I would say the moderator's roles have changed, but only as a long needed response to how a user's role has changed. Its no longer our duty to protect the users and site from minor issues. You can all do that yourselves now. I agree that some rules still exist and thus need to be followed, and that is the case. They're just not as strict anymore. That is the primary difference. Bungie is letting you decide whats acceptable and what is not, for yourself. Its not solely up to a ninja interpreting it anymore, and I think that is long overdue.
