They're not entirely energy or magic, but a certain type of energy personalized to me. As are its ashes. I'm not that surprised that the compression waves passed it as me, because keeping a figure of fire and ash and mimicking physical form with ash coating wasn't hard, but I thought tricking you would be. This has always been my loadout, minus my revolver. My katana, my fire, my ash, myself. I don't like too much armour because that usually slows me down.
