So I posted this originally as a comment to another users post about people crying about the Red Death. I thought is was too good to just be a comment post so here it is, my breakdown of Xur and earning. You will be able to see my stance by the end of the post. Feel free to try and discredit my post but this is what logic tells me is true.

Yeah all the complaining is funny, "he bought it from Xur, so he did not earn it Meah" these kids will always crack me up because they do not think about what earn means. I'm going to breakdown my view on it:
1. How much does an exotic Red Death weapon cost from Xur?
Answer: 23 strange coins
2. With one character how many coins are you guarantied a week from the weekly (Not counting nightfall).
Answer: 9 strange coins
3. So with that in mind how many Weekly Strikes does it take? (provided you do not receive any from engrams or bounties etc...)
Answer: 3...(9+9+9=27) with 4 left over after the amount needed for said weapon.
4. Now then you have some random Destiny player that picks up the weapon off a nightfall, or the ROC, or Crucible or other activity, due to RNG. That is, mind you...RANDOM. So I ask you is this earning it more then someone else?
Answer: no, no it's not, let me help you out and explain it.
5. So one player grinds the weekly for 3 straight weeks or if they have 3 characters do the same one 3 times, but the point is you have to run 3 strikes to have enough. After that Xur ends up selling something like the Red Death so how is it that if they use the coins they "earned" from the weekly any different then a player that "earned" the weapon from a drop in a similar activity.
Answer: it's not, not one bit different. But I would like to hear anyone that can say otherwise.
In the end it's just a game, people need to stop crying about this that and the other and play. Who cares how someone got a certain item, they have it so be happy for them and drive on.
That is all.

There is no XUR vs earn. You bought the game with cold hard cash. As a result anything obtained in game through whatever means is earned.

I agree hate all of those people who think if u bought it that u didn't deserve it. We worked hard to get the coins to buy it in the first place. Its like saying someone who got Gjallorhorn from RNG earned it and he says someone who bought it week 1 didn't earn it.

I am one of the only few guns that you can earn. #exoticbountymasterrace

Good post. Too bad there are way too many entitled brats (including grown children) that are unable to comprehend something so simple.
-
People complain about Xur selling exotics and yet the community asks for weapon trading. Xur is Bungie's answer to weapon trading!
-
I am glad to see someone here who gets it. Thank you for this thread. :)

I wish all these kids at school on the forums could all understand this concept... Deej even said this once!
-
If your trying to convince the "earners", youre likely wasting your time. You cant fix stupid.

Xur takes the point out of playing to fet that "one item" it's like going to casino knowing your gonna hit the jackpot and if he doesn't have something you want you have twice the amount of coins next week I don't mind the gamble I just think if RNG is gonna be in place make it to where xur only sells a few exotics not all the others you can't get from exotic bounties

Edited by An UnTouChaBle1: 3/13/2015 4:52:14 PMAfter reading this, I would have to agree with you on the "earning" factor. However my issue is that making this type of weapon readily available to the masses throws off the balance of the game slightly given its perks and the buffs is recently received via update. A weapon like this shouldn't be "earned" through RNG or Xur. I think Bungie needs to take a look at advantages certain weapons have (ie VexM, Ghorn, RedD) and evaluate if a bounty should be created instead. That way "earning" is a level ground across the board for everyone. It would take a set and certain amount of skill for every person wanting this item to obtain it, just like thorn or bad ju ju.
-
1) Who cares if other people have Red Death? It's only good because of health regen. 2) Pulse rifles typically require more skill to dominate with. 3) I'm glad people have access to this gun with ease now.
-
I think Bungie just enjoys the turmoil here on the forums; like kicking an ant pile. Fun times. I, for one, appreciate Xur and his visits.
-
This. Although the rage about Xur is all Bungie's fault. People want to feel unique, like Bungie promised, but they entirely ditched that.

I read someone else saying this though not word for word
if you worked to get to level 20, then you already earned the exotics
You do earn items that xur sells. You earn strange coins as much as you earn any blue weapon or blue armor. The engrams that drop are random. Kill enough enemy's and a blue engram will eventually drop. You just have to get lucky if you are searching for strange coin. The weekly heroic will give you strange coin so you do earn those.

Great post. I truly feel that buying from Xur is the only true way to "earn" something in this game due to getting a certain weapon from a drop which lets face it is pure luck. Another way to explain this in real life terms would be this. Say one person works at their job everyday and saves enough money to buy their dream car then goes and buys it. Another person goes to work everyday and one day someone mysteriously just gives them their dream car free and clear. Which one of these people truly earned their dream car?

OMG thank u I was too lazy to type all this. Plus I am getting trolled right now in another thread trying to explain this to both xurners and earners .

Tears will be collected when xur sells something good or when he sells crap. Endless cycles of agony lol
