Love the ideas.. Also why not create a weapon that utilizes each characters subclass. Powerup causes a overcharged sunslinger blast or something of that nature. Maybe the weapon takes on unique properties of the person yeilding it. Lets call it the terraformer. I believe it would bring a different level of next gen element to the game. One weapon that changes and adapts to the Guardian.

No light abilities, just super weapons and tech... And possibly a grapple hook melee that helps you get to places since you don't have the light to double jump. Anyways, that's a story for another time.
