Do you believe there will be a canonical explanation for why the Light Rifle is different in Halo 5? An unfortunate factor of 343i's decision to create a whole arsenal of Forerunner weaponry is that they can't really change the weapons' looks without giving a decent canonical explanation. With UNSC and Covenant weaponry, there doesn't need to be much canonical explanation, as it can easily be inferred that a change in appearance is the result of a new or different model of a weapon. Forerunner weaponry suffers from the unfortunate side effect of being the same as it was 100,000 years ago.

  • Who's to say the Forerunners didn't make different models as well? It's not hard to say that another model of Lightrifle was produced. The war with humanity did last 1,000 years.

  • You raise a good point. And I'm embarrassed to admit I never actually thought of it. Though, it does beg the question of why. In fact, it makes one wonder why the Forerunners, being as advanced as they were, couldn't just make a weapon that was self-modular, and could be switched into whatever was best for the situation.

  • Gameplay and status quo.

  • Both very true. Something I've never understood, though, is why the UNSC allows Forerunner weaponry aboard the Infinity in any place other than the labs. Humanity's understanding of Forerunner tech, especially weaponry, is rudimentary at best. For all they know, Prometheans could be connected to their weapons on a molecular level, and be capable of teleporting to them or willing them to fire from remote locations.

  • The UNSC has at least a basic understanding of Forerunner tech. Infinity's engines use their technology.

  • Yes, but only a handful of individuals "understand" them. Halsey is the only person that actually understands how they work and everything.

  • That seems insufficient. What are they gonna do if their engines get destroyed? Wait patiently for Halsey to stop by and give them a jump start?

  • Easily my favorite quote from Halo 4. It's so unbelievably true.
