Alright so compared to Gjallerhorn and Truth, the Dragon's Breath doesn't stack up very well. My idea to buff it has now three parts.
Part 1) Remove the Tripod Perk(Hold on don't freak out keep reading) and give it Tracking. Then give it the same thing Truth has with the built in Tripod perk.{A lot of mixed opinions on tracking so at Bungie's whim if they change this. I'm fine either way}
Part 2) Improve the Solar Flare. After the initial impact have a CLUSTER BOMB effect (LIKE HUNGER OF CROTA) but with 3-4 Solar Flares that pop out. This forms a RING OF FIRE which could TRAP bosses. Rather than just one Solar Flare. {If the game can process this would be really cool. Alternative being just a LARGER BALL=more surface area}
Part 3) Touch of Flame effect on Solar Flares (Lingering fire damage over time) This could be easily done and would add a lot to the weapon.
*These changes don't take anything away from the gun they are adding to it (Just for people freaking out on the removing tripod perk).
***CLUSTER BOMB IS NOT WOLFPACK***
This would turn it into a tracking launcher with incredible area denial potential. Also on stationary/slow bosses the multiple Solar Flares (larger surface area) would likely out damage Gjallerhorn's Wolfpack Rounds. Especially with lingering burning damage.
Gjallerhorn would still be the best Burst DPS launcher. Truth would still be the best tracking/proximity slayer. But this would give the Dragon's Breath that area denial and sustained DPS niche that I believe it was intended to fill.
*Thanks the the suggestions below I have added a third part being the lingering DoT effect on the Solar Flare*
Think of it this way Dragon's can turn their neck and aim their fire breath(Tracking). The fire breath the hits the target and some splashes off (cluster bomb) the fire that splashes of catches the ground of fire (solar flares). That fire the lights stuff on fire causing damage over time... BOOM DRAGON THEME!
***Also please note that if your going to have personal attacks on my ability to aim with a rocket launcher in your criticism/feedback on my idea, please kindly refrain from doing so. I can in fact aim quite well and have added the tracking to my idea for those who cannot, as well as the fact that many people want tracking. A fun side note is that you can still dumb fire with a tracking rocket by using hipfire.

I would like to see it given a lingering trail that also deals damage and proximity detonation, so that it would be more effective at zoning out enemies. Think about it a hovering orb of fiery death!
-
Not every RL needs tracking.
-
How about no tracking in the rocket its self but the solar flare tracks enemy's it has came it contact with
-
If it were a legendary I'd be fine with no tracking, but as an exotic it either needs to have tracking added or at the very least proximity detonation.
-
-
I like quite a bit about this, but I don't think it'd need tracking.. you people just need to learn how to -blam!-ing aim XD
-
Please not tracking! I hate lanches that have tracking, proximity detonation would be better.
-
Dragons breath is already pretty good though. I don't think it needs a buff. There just needs to be more places for it to shine.
-
I agree with you If dragons breath had tracking it would be a match to Ghorn & Truth, and with out tracking is a dud, and is just as good as a legendary rocket launcher, but it takes up an exotic spot! Bungie change this!

Edited by FightinFinn 2-7: 3/16/2015 4:32:07 PMI still don't like this idea! DB is a niche weapon designed for slow moving bosses and lane denial. It doesn't have to compete with Truth or Ghorn because it was never designed to compete with them. And quite frankly I like the Tripod perk due to it giving you 1 more reserve rocket than other launchers. Diversity is what makes games like this work and with the already limited weapons, making DB more like the other 2 just makes this game more cookie cutter than it already is.
-
It needs tracking!
-
I think it'd be best if you could shoot it at your feet and not kill yourself. an impenetrable perk. if you're swarmed by mobs you could clear them out and bask in the flare recovering.
-
I like the tracking idea but rather than multiple Solar Flares or a larger one, why not just make the Solar Flare stick to whatever target the rocket hits..? Seems like it would be just as effective and less trouble for Bungie to make happen.
-
With tracking it would feel more exotic
-
The main problem with your idea is that pvp exists
-
No tracking defeats its unqiue exotic purpose to do things others cant But lingering dot would be enough to bring to on par

Edited by Rynosaurus Reks: 3/16/2015 6:14:27 PMBut imagine if an entire raid team shot all 7-8 dragons in one volley. That's 126- 192 solar flares (I did the math: 3-4 SoFlas*6 players*7-8 rockets). The consoles processing power probably couldn't handle it and it'd overload and freeze/lag bad. And as an added bonus to your idea, this is what else is happening at the same time: everything happening around you: rockets firing (vector/direction smoke pixels), explosion (explosion pixels and sound), environmental sounds, npc spawning, npc sounds, player movement and sounds, damage counter, npc weapons firing (more pixels and sound), npc movement, background/environment/air (whatever is floating around the landscapes "air") movement, lighting effect changes, and all physical properties within the game. Your idea isn't bad, but it's just not good either. It'd be best if it was a self-made programmed/weapon mod like a Steam Workshop add-on.

Tracking is sooooo -blam!-ing overrated
-
I agree with you that it needs a buff. Personally, I think tracking is not the greatest addition, since it just reinforces the "if it doesn't have tracking it's garbage" mindset that many players have. Plus, everything has tracking these days. I do think your idea of a bigger Solar Flare would be great, and it should definitely have Ignite. Cluster bombs are overkill, in my opinion. Still, at least you are being constructive, and your post is mature and well-written, so I appreciate that. Cheers.
-
I have it and it sucks ass a buff is needed.
-
Dragons breath is more powerful than other launchers no buff is needed
-
Remove tripod , add tracking Done.
-
Dragons breathe is a nice rocket launcher. It doesn't need a buff. To many noobs spoiled with tracking rockets
-
The only thing dragon breath needs is tracking and it will be on par with truth and gally
-
Edited by Elite-Hunter_17: 3/16/2015 9:29:56 PMTo be honest I think truth needs a buff alongside dragon's breath as well xD I really don't see the difference between regular tracking and "aggressive" tracking. I mean truth doesn't even have cluster bombs or anything like that...

I think it's balanced as is, honestly. It carries 3 rounds, each with a Solar Flare effect. It already has the potential to lock down a boss, even more so if multiple people are running it.
