Something wrong with an entire game that your worth or skill level is based off of one rocket launcher. Not my grimoire score (2730), three 32 characters, that I've been playing since the Alpha, that I can solo Crota on hard up to Crota, raid completions, hours played, that I have every other exotic, attitude and teamwork, nope, none of that matters to some. When I have to say no I don't have a G-Horn and get looked down on as an asset to the team, that's bullshit.
Think about it? How many times have you jumped into an LFG raid team and the first thing that your asked is "Do you have a G-Horn? Nope, then kick him". I had an entire group of 31's wanting to kick me because I didn't have one even though I was going to run the sword.
These idiots that had the almighty G-Horn couldn't make it 2 minutes without getting killed causing the Oversoul. I left, joined in with a much more mature group who just appreciated the fact that I would run the sword, and did it with 2 tries using Truths and Hunger of Crotas.
I can't wait until Xur sells it or it is replaced by something better when skill starts to count for something again.... and so I don't have to see any more G-Horn posts exactly like this one.
Edit : For the record, I don't think that G-Horn is the problem, it's people's perception that G-Horn makes or breaks you as a player. Bungie is so concerned about weapon balancing and there being no one answer to the way people kill things yet they have allowed G-Horn to remain leaps and bounds above everything as far as DPS goes.
I don't want them to nerf G-Horn or Xur to sell it, i just want more options to get that kind of damage out of a weapon so people aren't chasing one gun the entire time they are playing. Be it more rocket launchers or buffing the current ones. I am playing less and less because i feel disappointed every time i complete a nightfall or raid and don't get it this far in.
And yes I understand Xur sold it week 2. I had just got Truth the week Xur sold G-Horn and wasn't much of a rocket launcher guy since I thought that The Swarm was as good as it gets when it came to Heavy Weapons. Who knew at the time that nothing, let me stress NOTHING, was going to come close to it's DPS ever, even this far in. I mean for real, who knew. I was more interested in the Inmost Light Helm at that time since I had no idea how common "exotic" armor was going to be. Biggest mistake in my gaming history.
-
Xur already sold it. That's how this day one player got his first one :-)
:-)
-
I feel your pain dude.
-
I remember having skill. Then it all changed. Now, I just shooting rockets everywhere,
-
I got an lfg group. When doing the abyss I was using the song of ir Yut. Some kid asked me if I didn't have anything better. I told him I had a gjallarhorn. He got mad that I didn't use it so I told him a machine gun that mows down groups of thrall while filling my grenade and a sniper that makes entire groups explode are better than a rocket launcher made for killing bosses. He said yeah right you just don't have a gjallarhorn and kicked me.
-
I have one, and I would never be that dickish. I look at it as a boss ripper, nothing more nothing less.
-
Gjallarhorn is horrible to use in Crotas End hard, other exotics like suros and red death are better because of their health restoring capabilities. 3 shots from HoC takes him down anyway and most people have the weapon... Gjallarhorn is just a luxury.
-
It is ridiculous that much of this is true as well as even more so how good that weapon is. But IMO it's far from mandatory. I've been on teams that killed Crota on hard in 2 swords & nobody had one.
-
I use my OG 300 attack Unfriendly Giant, cause Swag :)
-
Play with better groups. I run sword for my buddies alts which are level 30 and 31's they use a mix of ghorn, hoc, and legendary launchers with tracking. We clear it in 1-3 tries most weeks depending on how cooperative the raid feels like being. Nothing like a disappearing sword or a sb who mindlessly runs into the far ogre room.
-
I have never seen anybody being kicked cuz they had no GHorn. HoC or any other tracking RL is sufficient for Crota. Btw. I have 3 maxed GHorns. The first one was the second exotic I ever received (first was ThunderLord).
-
Nobody gives a shit wether you have gjallahorn or not. Nobody. People that say they do care are douchebags. And people like you feed them.
-
I can't believe people still think it's an "automatic kick" if you don't have G'horn. I have it, and I don't even advertise that I have it. I've never been kicked from a raid team...ever. Using Hunger of Crota is fine, and almost everyone who's 32 has one. If not, G'horn. If not, a tracking rocket launcher, or just volunteer to run sword.
-
What's definitely true as well is that not having it makes you feel like less of a guardian. it's a FACT. And it's poopy.
-
You have to have a Gjallarhorn in order to post on the forums.
-
I never really encounter that problem, but going as far as to say Gjallarhorn is a crutch is a little unfair. I barely ever use mine anymore now that I got more use out of Vex, Patience and Time, Red Death and Bad Juju. I don't like when people flaunt it about that have one, because that usually means they're stupid. The rocket launcher itself has honestly, a very limited range of applications outside of CE and maybe a few missions that require high damage in a concentrated area, but my Hezen Vengeance works just aswell in that regard and keeps my exotic slot open, and I'm sure the same can be said for Hunger of Crota, even though I don't have it.
-
I never run into problems like people getting kicked for not having ghorn.
-
This is exactly the same argument with 29s in a hard vog It's not the lvl it's the players. But in this post it's "it's not the weapon it's the player"
-
It sucks really. The wolfpack rounds only do like 35 damage and is terrible for big bosses. It's good for small red bar groups that's it.
-
Look, I understand where you are coming from and in fact used to be in your position. However, the harsh reality is that Gjallarhorn's sheer firepower dwarfs a great majority of weapons and in a situation like HM Crota where even the max level players are "nerfed" from lv33, getting as much damage as you can muster is critical to overcome to penalty. Should you be ostracized for not possessing a digital weapon drop? No, but a fireteam leader, despite the moral implications, reserves the right to monitor the team's firepower level and the chance to maximize it if the opportunity presents itself.

I have a Gjallarhorn, but I don't always use it. I solo The Wakening (the daily mission today) all the time without it. Although I can't solo Seige of the Warmind without it (personally because I hate that mission and just want it over and done with.) I do see people using it all the time, especially since there's the heavy ammo glitch, and all the synths you can buy from Xur. Personally I think they should just sell it, and take away it's usefulness in HOW. Not by nerfing it, but perhaps have the enemies very resistant to solar damage, and teleport every time a rocket is used. It would be interesting to have to play and have to be forced to not use it...

Another Ghorn post
-
Been playing since Alpha as well....got 2 Ghorns. Work harder at being lucky
-
Get a ghorn to get Gud scrub
Just messing with you, but srsly get a ghorn
-
The problem is foolish players, not the Gally. If it wasn't that it would be something else.
-
Than I must have some good skill cause I don't have Gjallarhorn yet
-
You can leave just as easily as them kicking you. They did you a favor. You met a group of decent people and got the job done.
