I just started playing again after quitting sometime mid-November. I’ve been reinvigorated in my love for this game.
One of the big drawbacks for me was always the long arduous grind for materials to upgrade gear. Mat grinding is one of my absolute least favorite things about RPG’s. When I discovered the trade-in had been changed to swap Vanguard Marks for materials, I was pumped.
I like grinding strikes, and the occasional Legendary Engram is always an added bonus.
That being said, I absolutely HATE the matchmaking system lately. Tonight, all I wanted to do was bang out a couple of strikes to cap my Marks before heading to bed. Something at Level 31 that should be easy, everyone is usually on the same page. Join up, burn through the Strike as fast as possible.
Tonight, I joined 6 Vanguard Roc strikes. Within minutes of every single one, one player quit, sometimes two. I don’t know about everyone else, but I hate doing Strikes with one man down and I’m definitely not bothering to do them solo.
What needs to be implemented in this game is something very similar to what WoW did with it’s dungeon finder system. “Deserter” penalties. Plain and simple. You join a strike and then quit instantly? “Deserter” is applied and you’re blocked from queuing for any Matchmaking games for 10-15 minutes. This behavior seriously ruins the game for other players.
I was so frustrated by it, I took 10 minutes just to jump on the forums and write this post. Tonight is not the only night I’ve experienced this over the last couple of weeks. I’m sick of it, and imho the behavior needs to be dealt with.

I would rather them leave for someone new to join rather than afk ( if gally dropped I'd rage quit by putting pad through tv)

Wait until you hit a lobby with two people not playing.

what happens if system crashes or destiny boots out? That has happened to me in all different areas, crucible, strikes, raids, etc.wouldn't quite seem fair to penalize people. just saying.
-
No, people should not be penalized for leaving a strike. Maybe they didn't like that strike ,or they already did that strike a lot that day, or maybe something came up at home they need to take care of. whatever the reason if they don't want to do the strike then I'd rather have them leave then half ass the strike or afk it. Either way strikes are easy as hell to do complete even if it's with just 2 people. If both of them leave so what back out and queue up for another strike. It's not like its a rampant issue where people are constantly backing out strikes all the time. Sorry you had some bad luck last night but there are bigger issues with strikes such as people who afk through them.

1H debuff reducing experience gained by 25% for deserters

A lot of the time it's because of people getting the same strike 2 sometimes 3 times in a row, not everytime but most times I find. I'll even receive a message from time to time from one of the deserters that tells me so. On top of that it seems like each day of the week plays 1 strike WAYYY more than the others in rotation. These last couple days I've done a little experimenting. I stayed in the ROC playlist for 7 strikes in a row yesterday and 4 of them were Septiks. Today I did the same and its Phogoth every other freaking time. Another gripe I have is that when the vanguard or eris offers a strike bounty for a particular boss, that strike just never seems to show up in rotation during ROC, forcing me to load up the normal version and not get any good rewards.

I understand your pain, for me it seems that Archon, Omnigul and the Black Garden are the worst for people dropping. I have pretty much stopped doing srikes unless I am leveling gear.

A deserter penalty is a good idea if Bungie ever fixes their shit. same strike back to back to back to back and back again kicked from a strike because Bungie servers suck

No, I will not be forced to play the same strike 2-3 times in a row and I will not be forced to play strikes that I don't want to. You want people not to quit strikes, form a fireteam with like minded people. I run Roc strikes with my clan or at least one clanmate so that at the worst we'd two man the strike. People like and hate different strikes. Now Deej and co understand that the biggest reason for people "abandoning" a strike is because of repetition and they are working on it. Honestly I think there should be a filter that lets you tick one or two strikes for the game to never match make you into. Or as an alternative have the fireteam vote on the next strike at the reward screen. This would solve "abandoning" issues. I personally don't like Valus Ta'urc because he's a bullet sponge, he's not difficult at all. I ran into people who hate Omnigul and Aksor, but i love those strikes. I wouldn't penalize people for not liking or wanting to do them, it'd be unfair and childish to do so.

I whole heartily agree, but the penalty should be steeper than a 10-15 minute ban though, something like loss of gear or weapons as this I believe will deter players from joining strike in the first place if they intend to quit. this has happened to me on many occassions not only where 1 player quits but another hides leaving others to try get through it. I now will not do any strike or raids outside of my clan, but even my clan does not seem interested in doing strikes and raids together

Estoy de acuerdo!!...whoops, damn Spanish keyboard. Preach brother. I got into destiny after CE but lucky enough to have 3 friends/family who are 32's and have helped me be the gentile level 30 gentleman I am today (just need to update CE gear to hit 32) and haven't had to deal with this or level 32 snobbery. If I could take your pain away, eat it and turn it into poo I would. But I can't. I'm just a man.

There's only two reasons why I leave Strikes: 1) If it's a repeat Strike. I don't know about you, but the Undying MInd is fun. Playing the Undying Mind twice in a row, however, is not fun. 2) Should both randoms leave mid-strike, I gain no benefit from wasting my time attempting to solo it. I'm better off just quitting, and finding a new team of randoms to join. But I do agree that deserters ruin it. You can just feel the mood change when someone leaves a Strike you and a random are pumped up for. Then you both stop for a second, and telepathically say, "Should we keep going?"

It's a good idea, but it will only incourage afk imo. I prefer them leaving more than afk'ing. Did one if the weeklies with a level 32 with 2600+ grimmoire afk the entire time. That shit is aggravating!
