Scenario 1:
He sells all the exotics people want. The elitist come on and bitch and moan about how "They earned their exotics". The thousandth flame war since the start of Destiny begins.
Scenario 2:
He sells a bunch of crap that nobody wants (even the elitists) and everyone bitches and moans about how Xur is worthless and how he could have brought something better/useful.
Basically it is like this every week and will be until Destiny ends.

I try to earn all my exotic weapons but the only one I have gotten from xur was just red death.. All my others I have earned myself
-
Lol "EARNING" isn't real in a game with a RNG like destiny, in my opinion each exotic drop should be exclusive to a certain game mode and chances of getting it are lower, that would be earning your exotics, but right now you can be doing a bounty in crucible and have played the game for 2 hours as a level 20 and end up getting an exotic drop. I feel like early game players earn more of their exotics because when you have one level 30 and every other character is below twenty you have to wait a few weeks to get the coins for xur and even getting a character to level 30 all depends on luck.
-
You a earned them as much as someone who bought them from xur. There is no difference, you still need to put in the hours to get the rewards.
-
Right but with all of the people bitching about "xurning or earning" it really pisses me off with people go out of their way just to complain about it. If they don't like it they can stfu and just play the game
-
The debate is ridiculous. It's like a bunch of kids arguing about who is more special. Either way you rely on rng - whether it's in xur's inventory or if it drops for you in a raid or w.e. Also why do people care so much about what other people have anyways? Just be happy you have the gun in question....

Exactly!

Its the same as the dlc situation everyone want to get better gear but they don't want the gear they have to become obsolete "why bother leveling up just for my gear to be useless when the next dlc comes out"
-
Im saving packs and marks knowing that the vendors will sell me something better then raid gear for all the new starters

you sir have joined the smart people club

Yup, I wonder if when the devs read these types of comments the just shake their heads and think, damn we've attracted another retard.
-
In actuality both those scenarios are together the only scenario. Both are simultaneously true, every week. The sheer number of players of in destiny ensures that.

Indeed

Did you read my mind?
