1. I remember Moa birds were a popular delicacy originally in Reach I think even before the Fall of Reach. Moa burgers were one example.
2. Though something similar to black market trade, crude and/or dark humor was traded through unggoy radios, which is why you hear something like "I'll rip your testicles off and use them for a necklace"(almost exactly like that), etc.

1. Somewhat correct. Moa was actually a pretty common before the destruction of Reach. It only costed a few credits to buy a Moa Burger. After the Fall of Reach, the Moa population plummeted to near extinction levels, meaning that the prices for it skyrocketed. 2. Nope, they loved to trade human Soap Operas.

I'm going to guess that before the Great Schism elites used to retreat from battle and thus separate, so the combat harnesses were to keep them together and not break apart and run away, similar to the tactics of the Mongols(?)
