[spoiler]if I had to guess, it's a little bit symbolism, little bit realism. Since both end with Locke or Chief in the same positions, just on opposite ends with different speeches. It could mean two things
1: two different ways the game will play/end
2: Symbolism of future events, showing that each spartan has his own goals and will stop at nothing to complete them.(Battle between Locke and Chief?!)[/spoiler]
