After many months, old forum features seem to be making a slow return. The first pinned thread in some time just appeared in #destiny, and I'm both happy and disappointed. [u]The Good[/u] Bungie is listening. You knew we wanted pinned threads. Whether you added them because of us or because the team finally got to it on the checklist, it's great. [u]The Bad[/u] It's a poor attempt at a pin-worthy thread. The information contained in DeeJ's post is very informative but it's hardly universal. #Destiny needed pinned threads the most, simply because it has the largest traffic of newbies. HOWEVER, it needed a guide on the tags, the code of conduct, and the forum system. Not (just) an information hub on #destiny sub tags that are largely self explanatory. (It could use it but it shouldn't be priority #1) For example, I'd expect future pinned threads to be structured like this: Welcome to the Bungie forums! *code of conduct* We expect you to follow these rules! You have no rights, play nice! *explanation on what a ninja and what a mentor is, a link to the #help forum* (the amount of people in #destiny asking ninjas what they are is extremely high) *a link to a page explaining, in detail, what each of the main forum tags should contain* Then the thread should be closed, preventing any comments and spam within the pinned topic that would distract from the posts information. Also, that pinned thread should then be pinned in every single main tag, not just #destiny. [u]The Ugly[/u] #destiny is still, the number one concern. I'm sure it's unintentional, but I can't help feeling that the community as a whole is yet again tossed. #community and #bungie largely remain dead, yet explaining where to discuss destiny classes is more important. Maybe I expect too much. I hoped the first installment of a crucial feature would be less experimental, and more impressive. I fully expect the #destiny pinned thread to turn into a spam-fest in the comments and I hope this doesn't make pinned threads less appealing, because they are almost essential in an organized forum. EDIT: Also, #destiny isn't the greatest place for experimental forum additions (I'm assuming pinned threads are still being tested since #destiny is the only tag with a pin). Godspeed to whoever has to manage the topic, it's 800 comments deep already. Sooner or later the pinned thread is going to start [i]hurting[/i] more than helping because of the distracting comments.
