Were you able to do this week's N.F. w/out cheesing?

Yes

1894

No

2043

I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of. If you did it, post here and explain how. I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed! edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever. So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO". next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question. I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese. The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns. I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned. The shields on the psions were ridiculous. Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit. I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan. Good thread. Thanks! final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese". IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap". NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works. I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time. I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task. Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible. Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun. In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

  • You can be killed up at the top or under both sets of stairs. No cheese there. That's just called being smart

Bungie knows this strike is bullshit, they've said as much. Maybe that's why they don't patch the stairs or lamp? Maybe after they nerf McDickface they'll close off the hiding spots.

      • That awkward moment when you get legendary engrams for your nightfall reward 3 weeks in a row...with all your characters....that end up being 2 energies a piece.....awkward....

        • Going to that bit by the crates under the slope isn't cheesing. It's a safe tactic. He can still shoot bullets through the gaps like you can. It's the cabal's fault for being ... Chunky that they cannot get behind there.

        • I had to cheese for two reasons 1. I had a 28, and a 30 with me (Surprisingly never returned to orbit). 2. Don't have another reason

          • Three Gjallarhorn. 19-21(depending on armor or three participants) rockets after three lieutenants but before tank. If not pop a synth before starting tank. Two positioned at end behind blast shields, one top left closer to Valus. 19 Gjallarhorn shots took him to less than a quarter health. Take cover for second, pop a synth and repeat. 20 minutes total, skipping Iron Line area, no wipes to orbit but a few deaths and revives here and there.

          • On my 2 lvl 32 Titans I didn't "cheese". Just played as if it was a ROC strike: bubble with weapons of light and rockets/Black Hammer. Switched to a void fusion rifle for those damn Psions or used void grenades. Just did it today with my lvl 31 Warlock and got under the ramp and sniped. My warlock is only a month or so old so I'm not as comfortable with the jumps/glides/etc. Id rather play it safe and get it over with. I like the ROC version of this strike, it's really easy. But this Nightfall version blows. It's not hard, just tedious.

          • I did it three times without using the spot under the stairs. Its not impossible. The guy i was with insisted on using it but i just cant. A personal choice. I dont need it.

            • I guess there are different opinions on what constitutes a "cheese". In my opinion, finding a spot where you can hit the enemy but he can't hit you is "cheesy". I don't think it's cheating and I don't judge anyone for doing it, especially since I do it whenever possible. Exploiting a glitch is more than cheesy, it's cheating, but I'd still do it to get through a particularly difficult nightfall or raid. BTW - my buddy and I also discovered that in the section with the tank, you can jump up on the cliffs at the back of the map or on top of the roof over the opening to the room with the interceptors (portable tank thingies) and hit the tank w/ snipers and the tank doesn't fire at you at all. It's not a glitch, it's in-bounds not out of the map, but it's cheesy because you can kill the enemy w/out it being able to fire a shot at you. Now that I've found it, I'll use it all the time.

            • Hiding under the stairs isn't a cheese imo. Maybe a little cheap, if you wanted to call it anything, but not cheese. He can still hit you, you can still get hit by phalanx/legionaires if you stand too close to the boxed, phalanxes love to stand between you and Valus, and it seems that under the stairs was designed to be a cover spot, as there are gaps perfectly placed to where you can see Valus on that side.

            • If there are baddies there before Valus got there, you skipped thru the gun battles and went straight to Valus. Hunter w/ invisibility is the key to not getting shot by Valus and minions.

                • Titan bubbles, fight from the opposite side of the room, then when he moves to the other side you go up top, then when he goes back you go back down.

                • If hiding under the stairs is cheesing then hiding in a titans bubble is cheesing too. Nuff said. Both method applys taking cover from shots being fired at u so idk why u call that cheese lol.

                  • Reading the question ( to which I, in all honesty answered with a sound NO ), I quickly imagined the following dialogue: Soldier ( let's say a sniper guy, who also carries a light auto rifle) asks his superior: do you mind if I use a hiding spot for when I fight an army of enemies? Superior: that's cheesing private! Just stand there in the open and shoot!

                    • I don't consider hiding under the stairs cheesing. It's a tactic for players who don't want to wipe.

                    • I'm still working on it... I'm standing right out in the open of the big room with Valus but keep getting killed. I just keep dying over and over again. I've been playing non-stop on this same Nightfall since Tuesday morning and haven't slept at all for two days... But I'll kill him here soon! There's no cheesing by hiding and taking cover for me! 100% legit, baby.

                    • It sounds to me by your standard sniping the LT. In the tank is cheesing because you are far enough away the adds cant target you. Using the cleanse bubble on atheon is cheesing too because he cant hit you in the bubble and times vengeance makes it last till the timer runs out. Is using post dlc weapons on pre dlc content cheesing too? This isn't teeball where everybody gets a turn and a trophy, battles are won by using anything and everything you can to your advantage.

                    • My friend and I stood across the arena and fires 28 Gjallarhorn rockets into Rockets McDickface. Of course, there are those that would try to argue that this is somehow "cheese" (not sure how...), but as far as I am concerned, the boss was killed and I got loot. That's all that honestly matters in the end anyway.
