Were you able to do this week's N.F. w/out cheesing?

Yes

1894

No

2043

I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of. If you did it, post here and explain how. I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed! edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever. So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO". next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question. I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese. The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns. I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned. The shields on the psions were ridiculous. Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit. I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan. Good thread. Thanks! final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese". IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap". NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works. I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time. I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task. Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible. Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun. In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

I just use those boxes on the right as soon as you enter the room as cover. No cheese. Just cover. No holes or jumping on top of things.

This week the answer is no, I used the under the steps tactic but I have successfully completed every nightfall strike without cheesing before atleast once but let's be honest when the loot drops are garbage why do the headache of actually attempting it legit. I know that I can do it and that's good enough for me. Also hiding under the stairs u are still able to single jump up and hit him with a rocket without taking a lot of damage then when he moves to the other side U come out of cover and hit him to force him back to the original side

      • A cheese is exploiting a bug in the game to your advantage allowing you to easily pass a difficult part in a game. In that strict definition no I didn't cheese, I strategically placed myself behind some crates to not get shot and I did this method three times solo.

        • The best thing to do is do the heavy ammo glitch in the room before Valus, lay into him with rockets, then one at a time go and restock. Doesn't take long, and it's fun shooting rockets at him. :)

          • So let me get this straight: Non-Cheese way: Everyone hides in a Titan bubble, pops out and fires gallys and hides back in bubble when reloading. Valus goes down pretty swiftly by the sounds of things. Cheese way: Players use ramps to avoid valus at start before retreating to using the area under the stairs (or crates at far end) to avoid major phalanxes who don't flinch due to Angry modifier. If valus is at opposite end player will need to deal with surrounding enemies in order to pop out and get shots at valus. So, isn't cheesing making something easier and eradicating the risk of death? Which one of these more closely matches "cheesing".... ...... Oh.

            • The problem with your entire thread and poll is that you don't understand the difference between tactics and cheesing. You think fair means standing toe-to-toe with an NPC that has 1000x more health, infinite ammo, and respawning minions. That's not fair...that's fucking stupid. I take cover behind the boxes and barriers at the beginning, and snipe the shit out Mr. Bullet-sponge. I spend half my time reviving the fuck-wits who think they can succeed with your definition of non-cheesing.

            • Stepcover4life. I know what you're getting it, the random mobs that spawn with lightswitch make it brutal. I went under the steps 3 times and don't feel guilty about it at all.

I soloed it twice without cheesing. How did I do it? I hid under the ramp with the crates, because it isn't cheesing. The level was designed for that spot to be a safe place. No glitching through walls or the floor is necessary. Thanks for playing.

I hid under the ramp, so it's not as bad as jumping on top of the lamp.

            • It's not a cheese to hide under the stairs. We're not taking advantage of any bugs, it's just a spot on the map. Besides I hide on the lamp, which I still don't consider a cheese.

            • Pfft, it's not cheesing, it's called tactically placing yourself somewhere so you don't get shot to death.

              • Yes, I hid under the stairs. This isnt an exploit or cheesing as all I did was find cover in the environment where the boss fight takes place. Rockets McDickface can still shoot me so hows it cheesing?

              • Did the heavy ammo glitch before the room next to valus. Hit valus with 14 ghorn and 6 hungers, popped a bubble, ran back filled up again and soon after he was dead.

                • It isn't cheesing unless you take advantage of a glitch. Using cover isn't a glitch. You aren't off the map, and you can still get hit and die in every cover spot in this strike. I'd love to see a video of some of these asshats who claim they don't use cover, lol.
