You don't need one to be good. Everyone does have an equal chance of getting one because it's RNG. The chance of one dropping is the same, regardless of any factors. But it is just luck. I don't know how you can possibly say that nobody earns a gjallahorn. I think that point is illogical that you can earn it from buying it and not from playing the game. After completing everything I possibly could every week to get an exotic, for 6 consecutive weeks, I earned mine. Shit happens and someone may get one for not doing anything, but if you're gonna moan don't give them the Gorgon's chest in the first place!
