I have been playing this game since Day 1 like many others and have come across people who have vault space issues, even with the new patch. Here's a list of recurring themes in these complaining people's vaults that I see:
Keeping more than 1 copy of an exotic or raid weapon.
- The Vault app makes swapping an exotic or raid weapon fast and efficient - there's no need to clog your space up with duplicates. Store your exotics in the vault like a library of exotics that your guardians "check out" when playing them and then "return" them when finished. Simple as that. As for raid weapons, I have seen many people try different stuff to get extra space - what I do is place all Crota weapons on 1 character, all VoG weapons on another, and all IB weapons on the last character. The result is that each character has multiple elemental weapons and just needs that "choice exotic" tool(s) to get the job done from the vault.
Keeping more than 1 copy of raid gear.
- A full set of raid gear for each class is all you need. Having different gauntlets and boots is a cluttering mess. Pick the one that best compliments your stats, and shard the rest. For nostalgia purposes, I left the 2 1/2 sets of VoG armors in the vault to upgrade later - many others have done the same - you should as well. Yes, I accidentally dismantled some Titan VoG gear :(
Not storing exotic armors on that character's respective class for quick swapping.
- Kind of obvious, but this one comes up every now and then. Your characters don't need 2 Masks of the Third Man nor does it help them to have it in a vault instead of being on their person to use. Free up that space in the vault and hold onto it. There's only 1-4 exotic armors from each armor type for each class. That leaves you with at least 4-5 spaces for engrams minimum per armor slot during missions. Space for 20+ armor engrams - that's plenty!
Holding onto gear below Legendary quality. (Exception: Stranger's Rifle)
- Why? Legendary+ gear is superior and too many obsolete blues and greens are the biggest source of clutter. This one may feel a bit personal, but I make a good point: Space is always a premium and if you want to have the space for new stuff, you should be updating your wardrobe and weapon cache. I know that the Crucible makes that 1 shotgun "great", but there are legendary shotguns out there (Morgue, Comedian, Judgement, Handshake, etc....) that are just vastly superior with abilities and max firepower for PvE content as well. The Stranger's Rifle is an odd exception because it's only given once per character and if you trash it, you have to redo a character to get it again. Also, it's stats are beautiful for Crucible (ATK doesn't matter) after helping a low level character get to 20.
Not condensing materials and general resources into 1 shared pot.
- I have a set of 200 Spinmetal, Helium, Bloom, and Iron for each character, with their specific class material since only they can use it. Everything else is shared, hell you can make those other 4 materials shared if you want. So why not put it in the vault to be shared? You turn in bounties at the tower anyway to give XP, and there's the vault for the mats. Just put them back to save room. Simple.
-----------------------------------------------
I know there are people who will think negatively of this post - I don't care. Haters always hate. I hope that someone gets some insight into managing their vault. To those people, I hope this was helpful. I have a pic of my vault structure so you can see what I mean. Obviously, this post has my opinion in it, take it with a grain of salt if it doesn't appeal to you. I'm just trying to lower the amount of stressed out vault complainers on the forums who may just need some help organizing stuff. Sorry for the long post, but it's kind of hard to condense this kind of stuff.

You arn't having much legendary weapons other than raid weapons thats the point why you have enough space also how will come in a few days with a lot of new stuff

Edited by I Try you Cry: 4/15/2015 6:52:21 PMEdit: I agree with most of your post but the Misc storange is an issue for me. I probably need more Misc space due to the idiotic stacking numbers. 20 for Synthesis? 5000/???? for Class specific material 200 for World materials? 1000/???? for Shards/Energy 25,000 for Glimmer To updage a pair of Deathsinger's grips I need: 50 Class specific material 80 world Material 21 Shards 4500 Glimmer So let me get this straight, the material I need the most is also the material I can have the least of in a single stack, but the material I need the least I'm allowed to have (5/?) times that? I'd love to know who thought of this, because these stack sizes are ridiculous. It's not unworkable, but it's stupid that in a few days I'll have 24 stacks of 200 when I could have 4 unlimited stacks in the vault that I deposit everything into. Which is exactly what I do with Shards/Energy/Motes/Marks/Weapon Parts/Exotic Shards/Glimmer Consumables so is there any logical reason as to why I'm wasting 24 slots+ on World mats and 20 slots on Heavy ammo Synth?

Get the Destiny Item Manager extension for Google Chrome. It is far better than the app; and I'm not saying the app is bad. With the item manager you can see every item you have across all characters and vault on one screen. You can move any item you have anywhere with one click. My absolute favorite thing about it is you can create preset loadouts. I have loadouts for each of the nightfall burns, two for VoG (before and after oracles), six for CE (solo abyss, abyss, bridge, Deathsinger, Crota, and running the sword), and strikes/bounties. No need to slow down your raid to swap weapons over. Just click the Atheon button and you'll instantly have your Vision, Black Hammer, and Thunderlord equipped. If you don't have the extension go get it. It's by far the best way to play.

I don't have an issue with vault space for gear or material items, however, I did have an issue with weapon space. I didn't like having all sorts of guns with my other guardians, leaving a few spaces to switch gear to and from via the app. I like having all of my guns in one place so when I go to the tower, I pick what I need for that mission and can return it when I'm done to switch to another character. I don't have any duplicates other than 3 Eideon Ally's, and 3 Murmur's (I keep one of each on the three characters so I always have the one weapon for the active slots). I kept one Khvostov, one Stranger's Rifle, and a green Shoot to Loot scout rifle. I try to have one of each type of special weapon with all three burns (3 snipers, 3 shotguns, etc...). I also have a couple of extra good for Crucible weapons and quite a few Exorics. Given all of this, my vault is already 100% full even after the new patch. However, the new patch has allowed me to deposit all of my weapons, which makes me very happy for now.

I kinda like having my blue scout rife that picks up ammo
-
I mostly agree here. However, some blues have perks that make them epic in PvP. Polite denial w/ luck in the chamber for example. Never should have DMed that. :/
-
Item Management 101 right here, this NEEDS to be stickied.
-
I only have one Common weapon. Battered and worn, stills fires true. Perhaps it's been waiting for you.
-
I have every exotic and all but one raid gun, I keep one icebreaker, gjallahorn, and black hammer on each character. The rest is in the vault. Still have 3 spots left, hopefully a praetorean foil will take one of those spots.
-
Hm... I don't do any of these things but I'm still bumping up on the new weapon limit with Exotics, Raid Gear, and Iron Banner Gear. The only difference is that now they all actually fit in the vault instead of having to put it on another character.
-
I think you nailed this- but you can't force common sense. This will always be an issue, simply because some people will never be able to delete the stuff they found.
-
How do you handle ships and shaders? I don't want to get rid of the ones I have as I like to change it up, and I don't want to delete the ones from raid..(3 on each.char) And don't get me started on ships...
-
1) Yes the app makes it easy to swap ... When it doesn't make your stuff vanish. 2) If people are keeping extra copies of armor that isn't raid/exotic then they're doing it wrong ... 3) You shouldn't need multiple copies of armor piece. 4) agreed 5) agreed
-
There's a common sense factor that these guardians aren't grasping. 3 characters with a dozen slots in each weapon and armor category, and the vault? There's plenty of space for anything a guardian needs and some. You don't need two of the same gun...ever. You can't play two characters at the same time, with the same gun.
-
The only gun i replicated was icebreaker due to its general usefulness. If i get a second, i will do the same with gjallarhorn.
-
Only thing I wanted was more weapon space. 1 of every exotic filled it too fast. Now I have room to spare and I'm grateful. What I wish now was that I didn't have to carry shaders but it they "unlocked" a list for my account. Not to mention heavy ammo stacking to more then 20... Minor gripes that I'm dealing with. But still...stacks of 20 for heavy ammo? It's just poorly thought out
-
Actually that's kinda helpful... I've been collecting since day 1 and I've got some clutter lol. Thanks!
-
if you have 3 characters, and 3 of the same weapon, may as well keep one on each character rather than keeping them in the vault...
-
Well said
-
I disagree about one set of raid armor being enough. When I use my sunsinger on Crota is use Sunbreakers during the Abyss and Bridge for the added duration of solar grenades. I switch to my Heart of the Praxis Fire and for the deathsinger so I can bombard her with fusion grenades the I put on Apotheosis Veil for health regen during Crota. If I didn't have multiples of my raid armor pieces changing my exotics would throw my stats out of wack.
-
I can't help it but I have x3 fang 1 on each character x3 blackhammer 1 on each character, x3 icebreaker 1on each and x3 Hunger of Crota 1 on each they stay on the characters, no swapping and no clogging vault space
-
I have over 25 shaders, most of them different from each other, and they're all ugly. It's annoying.
-
Legendary i already have = dismantle Exotic i already have = keeper Unless its fudging patience and time or icebreaker, I've gotten 7 of each :(

I got the galleys and the hawkmoon and can't bring Myself to deleat then. Even have two last words u can't quite do it yet.

I have multiple of some exotics and raid gear. Until the recent patch I was able to swap with my chromebook. But after the latest patch I am having issues navigating the site and need to open a different tab for each character. The second issue is that My team moves fast and ends up waiting on me during a raid because even though I still have multiples, I only have a single item of some of my weapons such as the Ghorn, Thorn and Fatebringer. Second point is that when I get an unnecessary exotic weapon I like to level it up so I get 2 shards by dismantling it. Same with legendary because I need more Ascendant energy. I feel grateful for the increased space and still need to organize my stuff and prioritize which version of a certain weapon I keep. I use the post office to hold my recently dropped weapons. All I do is max out all my weapon slots so the item is forced to go to the Post office.
