After reading through alot of the comments I've noticed a common theme among you peoples...mainly being afraid that this will be a once a week type of deal. I can really see Bungie doing it this way as it would fit the model they've already shown us with the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall. My hope is that they don't do it this way and offer the Arena mode as something like the strikes, where you can play it whenever and however many times you want. One thing that would spell death to this mode though is having to take 2-3 hours in it to begin to see some sort of benefit. Players on general don't have that much time to invest at one sitting and if it means your progress is wiped every time you log out, oh well, players will just do something else. I'm really glad Bungie decided on 3 person fireteams as it was hard as hell to put together 6. It even takes sometimes up to 5 minutes to get enough for the Crucible these days, so I think 3 person teams for the raids moving forward would be an excellent idea as well. We can only hope Bungie realizes this and makes the right call. Thoughts??? Cheers

  • Actually the build-up of 2-3 hours to get to the good stuff could still be applicable as long as there are checkpoints along the way. Why not have it keep track of your successful waves progression as the week goes on. You might play the first day or two for an hour or so and only get to wave 20, get a few decent drops, but if you keep playing throughout the week, you reach wave 50-60 or something like that you're suddenly getting nicer stuff on a regular basis. By the time it hits the weekend for most casuals (when that type of gamer generally plays the most for obvious reasons) it can be a frantic push to burn through a bunch more waves (as you've already gotten pretty far along with an hour or two here or there earlier in the week) to keep those rewards rolling in before it resets you back to wave 1 on Tuesday :) It would also promote playing more, playing longer, and playing more often... which is always what Bungie wants!
I'm sure there would be those trying to abuse this and get hooked up with people for a checkpoint at say, wave 50 or something... but then people do the same thing with raids. I mean how many times you see people constantly looking for various raid checkpoints :)
• Well that would be a good way to do it, hopefully bungie saw your post and will make it so!

Well it'll definitely be replayable... I mean you can replay any of the strikes or the nightfall and the raids now if you want to. But I'm sure they'll limit the exotic and raid loot drops to once a week. Otherwise everyone would have all of the new raid gear on day 1

What would be nice, is if the arena was like a 6 man team gets split into two, only to join up again at the end, all while still being able to talk and having to coordinate and interact with the other group. So for example, if we used Crota as an example for "horde mode", the 6 man team does the abyss together, fights that wave, but they get teleported to two identical bridges in different worlds in teams of 3. Then the three sync plates have to be activated (but not held) in the same order in both places to form the bridge, and fight that wave of ogres and wizards. Then both teams fight their own deathsinger, killing her at the same time, otherwise the one revives the other, and then fight through their own wave of knights etc. Then everyone gets teleported back to the same venue for the final boss as a 6 man team again. It'd be even cooler if one world was arc and the other was void, only to have it switch halfway through.

  • Yeah that's a great idea man. I'm anxious to see how this new mode turns out

  •
Yeah that's a great idea man. I'm anxious to see how this new mode turns out
Anxious is a good word. But you know, honestly, I think it's better going in not knowing what to expect. I mean, imagine if we were getting a raid! That's all we'd be talking about, hyping it up, analyzing it, breaking it down, talking about how "if it's not better than VoG then I'm done with Destiny," making the expectations SO huge that it would fail before it even got released, since there'd be no way to live up to the hype we would've created. No, I for one am glad for something new and different. Besides, we're still getting a raid at some point. And it will have a better chance of being great.

  • Yeah totally agree, everybody just needs to have some patience, and also they could be a little hostile towards Bungie. Just think of all the people who dedicate all their time to making this, I'm sure they were excited to reveal it finally after all their work, just to have it completely shot down by bratty little kids.

What's sad to me is that it might be those bratty little kids' fault we're not getting a raid in the first place. Bungie said they had "been humbled" by the reception of the Raids, so they didn't put one in HoW. To me that sounded like "you guys gave us soooooo much crap for both raids, that we're second guessing ourselves."

  • Yeah you are spot on, they complain about the raids, then complain about no raid. This is a tough market because there is just no pleasing everyone

  • Lol well hey, I'm pleased. This game is a lot of fun. Still. And I'm not expecting a sequel with every expansion, you know? And obviously a ton of people still play, otherwise we wouldn't even be here.

  • I wouldn't feel too bad for bungie. Many people are living large off of this game. I think they can handle bratty kids whining.

  • I'm thinking this will be a more where you are rewarded every few waves / after boss waves with engrams, shaders, ships, glimmer, chance at exotics, etc. I think this mode is meant to be a repeatable time killer with a chance at loot like roc strike farming. Once a week loot drops aren't very sustaining for the game to last. Raids work in wow when they aren't the only thing to do, but in destiny, people with 3 32s and several hundred hours have played everything to death, and one more weekly addition isn't enough for them. As more people complete their gear collections, the addiction to the chase ends and they need to actually have fun to keep playing.

  • I'm just saying that even if you get loot just once a week from it you can still replay it because it's fun. Take cod zombies, I used to play that everyday because I enjoyed it

  • The way I look at it is this will be a survival mode type activity, and even if you complete it the first time and get the rewards nobody is stopping you from playing it again. I will be playing it again just for the fun of it.

  • Me too, anything that adds some challenge to the mix. Can't believe Bungie went and nerf'd some of the strike bosses as they were fine the way they were. Even Omnigul now isn't as bad or hard as it originally was. Cheers
