Performance has nothing to do with it, it's random; people are just really salty and only pay attention when other people get stuff. Classic case of jealousy. This colors and affects what they perceive (or don't perceive) and what they remember (ditto). IE, people who get said shit while doing "good" just go "OHMAHGERD METAL GEAR!" and go on with their lives while the ones that see bottom of the leaderboards getting stuff get mad and jealous. It's just a reflection of how venomous this community is. Also look at the "xurners should get different colored stuff because I want to feel special" for more evidence. And you can also look at 80% of threads to witness it lol.
