I currently have a group at my library who discuss and debate current events and I also write my representatives frequently. I speak with my pocket and my vote, however little it may be its more than most Americans do sadly.

Not to get in the way but there are other levels than hate and love. Both extremes are usually wrong and not selected from logic.

Would word choice really change the message? Why are people focusing on one word? Would it be any different if I said "I strongly dislike the current state and affairs of our nations representative system"?

Then why focus on one single word and not the piece as a whole? It's like saying a ship will sink because there's a nick on the railing. I don't see any real redeeming qualities in the current U.S. Government's state of affairs and that's my opinion. You're entitled to your own.
