Like it or not, health care is a business in the United States. Yeah, if it's an emergency and you need to be treated for something right away they will rush you to a hospital and operate on you right away. However, if you do not have any insurance you will be stuck with a bill in the thousands if you're lucky. If you need to stay any extended amount of time, well that's too bad, you don't have any insurance, and that means that the hospital isn't getting paid. Unless you can pay the hospital out of your own pocket you will be discharged early without all of the care you need to properly heal and a massive bill that you won't be able to pay back. This is a very common problem in this country.
