I'm not a Souls noob, but I can't get through Dragon Shrine. I figured out when you beat the big guys, the little guys leave you alone. When I open the door to go up the steps, I have about 10 guys coming at me. The npc goes down and then I do.

I've never had any problems with them o.o

Just run past everyone to the dragon. When you get next to the dragon, they won't come after you, so you should be fine.

Took me about an hour but I figured it out. Went with pyromancy. When they were pounding Bashful Ray, used fire tempest then kited 2 or 3 at a time around the shrine and up the tower using fire orbs.
