My art teacher, on the first day of class:
"White is the absence of color. Black, on the other hand, is all the colors combined.
I wanted to walk out of the class at that point.
Edit: I was thinking about this scientifically (light and such), not artistically (paints, dyes, etc.). Should have thought artistically in an art class after all lol. So either side is right depending on which view you look at it from.

Actually artistically white and black technically aren't colors.
-
white and black are opposing ends of a value system. white contains all colors and breaks apart when using a prism (rgb). even when working with classical pigments (ryb), combining all the colors gives you something muddy neutral, not black. i cant remember how the cmyk system works though.
-
I'm in a graphics class and I'm not sure about Cmyk either, I think it has to do with printing
-
She's right though. That has to do with light, what she's talking about is dyes/paints.
-
Yeah, said something bout that in another reply. Ima make an edit about it.

Black is seen when a surface absorbs all the colors of light and none are reflected back to the eye. White is a surface that reflects all the colors back to the eye. Thats why wearing black clothing in the sun feels alot hotter than wearing white clothing.

Well, the funny part is that the statement is true

Edited by scharkfin: 4/27/2015 9:20:11 PM
Well, the funny part is that the statement is true
It's false. White/Light is the combination of all color. This is why when light passes through a prism, you see the spectrum/rainbow. Also, black is the absence of color. Black is found in the absence of light (which is all colors). Space is also mostly nothingness (besides the matter that make up celestial bodies and dark matter, if they prove that to be real), and space is black.

White LIGHT yes. With stuff like markers/other drawing stuff, white is the absence of color
-
Ah, then we were thinking of two different views. I was looking at the scientific view, as in absence of light, and you were looking at the artistic view, with the absence of color (on the paper, canvas, etc.). Suppose I should have thought of it more in the artistic way in an art class lol.
-
Yea, don't worry. I think too scientifically to get the point of a topic 70% of conversations I have
-
Same lol

Edited by Hasaabitt: 4/27/2015 9:43:52 PMYea lol. Is it just me or is it fun to be in conspiracies? Lower down on the thread, a flat earther asked
How do you know the Earth is round?
I COULD have gone into a huge lecture, but all I said was
How do you know the Earth is flat?
xD I would love to see their response.

The moral of the story: If you can't convince someone, you put them into a pickle where they are making stuff up. In two words:
Question everything
-
Exactly haha. That's why if I ever go into an argument I try to know both sides of the debate. So that way you can try to outsmart/out question someone on their own opinion lol.
-
Smite him with Color!
-
Even the teachers are dumb now.

My dad told me he had a weird girlfriend, he told me he called her soul black. She said "black isn't a color, but the absence of color". My dad replies "Yeah, like your ABSENCE OF SOUL."

*Cringe*
