I guess not, but... why are you proud of it? It's a piece of history you yourself weren't really a part of at the time. If you're happy you were born in this country, then sure, be happy about that. But pride in a country can be a dangerous thing.
The people across the pond and the rest of the world have a pretty nice view on it. They're glad to be where they are, but they're not blind patriots. They like their country, both good and bad, and are more down-to-earth. Not everyone is like that, sure, but we could do with a bit of perspective.
