What is the Random number generator?
The RNG system is bungie's way of giving out loot, there are many theories about is but this is mine, it sounds a lot more logical than the some of the other ones that are out there,
So first of all, your doing a nightfall, so you go through the strike and finish, you get a legendary weapon, well, that weapon is in a pool of weapons that you can earn, with their own number, or various numbers, that have been branded with them. It is a number in a pool of all the items in the game, but what I think is that some items are taken out of the pool and narrowed down in certain activities, like the nightfall, or any other strike, like rare, common, and uncommon gear aren't awarded in the nightfall strikes, their numbers are taken from the pool to be narrowed down to the rest of exotics, or legendaries and shards and such. Again, some gear could have extra numbers instead of only one, maybe a single item has 100 numbers in the thousands of items in destiny, well, some can be taken out, so the chances of getting that item are rarer or more common, in the large pool of vanguard ROC strikes they could have thousands of rare to exotic items in the pool, maybe a rare has 20 numbers in the pool, while legendaries have 5 and exotics have 1, let's say there is 250 rares, 20 legendaries and 10 exotics in the pool, so a total of 50,110 numbers in the pool, so, the chances of getting a rare are around 250 times more likely than an exotic. It's like picking from a bag of colored marbles, after it ends, the random number generator runs and picks what you get. This is just a theory, not fact in anyway, but that's just how I think of it, cause in logic of every piece of gear had one number in every single activity, I think people would be more likely to get exotics from story missions, and that doesn't make sense. Besides that what do you think the RNG system is made out of? Tell me below so I can take it into consideration!
