I'm not a seasoned raid veteran, but I learn quick.
I had my warlock and found a group for hard crota checkpoint. Everyone starts killing acolytes like normal. A knight dies, I'm like oh, ok. They proceed to kill all the Knights without spawning orbs.
I asked the group if they usually spawn orbs with the Knights for health, it was silent. Finally someone says, ahhh, no?
It was late, I knew I should have explained, but 5 other people in a hard mode crota check point should know, right?
I left right there without saying a word, because I knew there was no chance we were going to bring crota down.

I had a similar thing happen to me. One guy killed three of the 4 knights. I asked if we were gonna wipe and they said no. So we said this would be a dry run. We ended up beating crota on that run but man were they running around trying to get me orbs (as i was the only titan).

You can down Crota hm without orbs. I've done it many time. Titan bubble, Red death...
