As time progressed and the earth cooled down, simple gases (i.e. Hydrogen and Helium) started to form into more complex gases (i.e Nitrogen and Oxygen)

No, it was super hot during its creation but has since cooled down.

I'm personally not sure, but if it is then it is cooling at a much slower rate then it was in my example.
