Bungie finally admitting things were cut from the game?

Interesting that someone at Bungie finally admitted things were held back from launch. If Trials was part of the launch then access to the reef was more than likely supposed to be available at launch (Given what we saw 2 years ago in the Vidocs). Interested to hear what people have to say regarding this. Here's the quote from the associated press interview.
The developers now regularly toss in phony bits to throw off the sleuths, but not before the data-miners were able to discover that the three-versus-three multiplayer mode called "Trials of Osiris," arguably the most substantial part of the "House of Wolves" expansion coming May 19, was originally slated to be a big part of the game from the outset. "When we were getting close to launch, we knew we weren't going to have something that was compelling," said Bakken. "I had a conversation with some of the other leads, and we came to the conclusion that it just wasn't ready yet. The data was still there, but what 'Trials of Osiris' has become is very different than what it would have been."
Edit: There seem to be some real butthurt people here, or at least people who don't understand the point of this. This is an insight to how they went about making this game. It's an indication that content was held back from launch. Is it just coincidence that everything that didn't make the base game, yet is necessary to have the full experience, was help back to be resold? I'm aware this is old news, I've had the game since day 2 and I still play it here and there. I'm not knocking the game, it's fun for what it is. This is just the FIRST time Bungie has at all addressed things being cut. Next I'd like to hear how they could justify putting "Rich Cinematic Storytelling" on the back of the box with a straight face.

  • Yeah, for one, that is just someone saying they used to work for Bungie, and secondly, that is really old, like 5 months old. Most important, the lead story writer had a falling out, leaving the company. Again, Destiny said this game was supposed to last 10 year, and you want them to release EVERYTHING at launch? Doesn't sound smart kid. The reason I am not acknowledging the cut cut content as bad is because I just don't care anymore, whining about 6 month old spilled milk is just tiring.

    • Held back means it was ready to go but was pulled. That's not what is being said here.

    • You're obviously quite delusional if you think this is a unique occurrence.

    • Sounds like you read what you wanted to see. The way I see it nothing advertised pre release is final and we shouldn't expect everything we see to be there. For one reason or another destiny changed a lot through development. IMO it's pointless to speculate on what it was going to be or why it changed. The 2 complaints I see most often are about dlc being sold when it was "finished" before launch. And that the game is nothing like people thought. The first point is simple. Companies care about making money. That is not wrong. The only people who can truly say the content was finished is the devs. If they don't feel it's done then it isn't. And frankly I'd rather they cut an idea from release to fine tune it and sell it to us later then given a half baked idea that wasn't executed to the fullest. The second point is also simple. People fell for the hype. Something you should never do for any game. People let the rumors of what the game used to be cloud their thoughts. The fact is we don't know much about what it used to be. So getting upset over something we knew little of just seems foolish. People just need to accept destiny for what it is and move on. There is always room for improvement. And bungie has continued to show us they can and will make the game better.

      • "This feature wasn't ready and is now very different than originally planned" is not at all the same thing as "we cut this out to sell later"

        • You read that and think things were cut from the game. I read that and see that they set high expectations, couldn't reach it, then didn't put it out till it reached they're standards

          • And they gave a perfectly good reason as to why it was held back - it wasn't ready yet. I for one would far rather get more polished and superior content a bit down the line - in the end, if the game was held back for everything that was originally planned for release, we still wouldn't be playing it.

          • You children are still whining over this? All this does I broadcast your tantrum to others, it serves no other purpose. This was all talked about last year at release and frankly its more annoying than last time. Do us a favor and take this down. They already addressed it so there is no reason, what youre doing is just opening old wounds.

            • Have you ever heard of the "burning plane" analogy used within Bungie since the Halo 2 days? When Bungie was developing Halo 2 they were so ambitious that they bit off more than they can chew, the Halo 2 we have today is roughly a half of what was supposed to ship (campaign wise anyways), since then Bungie adopted the idea that once a project becomes green-lit it becomes a burning plane that must land and the pieces of this "plane" that come off on descent are sacrifices that must be made in order to "land" safely. While I admit that the idea that Destiny today is but a shell of what Bungie wanted to ship is one I associate with, I allow myself to only become disappointed by it to a degree while understanding that the plane must land. One way or another.

              • This is why so many people who really liked this game but simply got tired if doing the same exact thing over and over to level every item abandoned playing this and moved on to other games. I feel like I just hit my wall with this game. I'm level two Iron Banner and don't feel like playing it anymore. I have two weapons I want to start leveling up but then again I'm tired of grinding for every inch. I just bought GTA V. I'm waiting to see if my passion comes back for this game. Also it's hard to find a consistent group of people to play alongside of and that kills some enjoyment from playing the game.

              • They probably put it in knowing that they would make it available later and it was still in its experimental stage

                • Content is cut from every game. No surprise here, what surprises me is the, "Trials was nothing like it is now". Trials is a straight copy/paste game mode that's been done in gears and call of duty and other games for a long time. I'd rather see what it was before than what it is now, was probably more creative before.

                • Bungie has always admitted content was cut from games. As a developer you'd be lying if you didn't say that. Did you know Halo Ce was a mac game first. Then went to console, then became an FPS game instead of strategy. Halo 2: the E3 demo was cut completely. The engine scrapped, and a new one took place. The game was also 1/3 the length they wanted. Bungie also wanted the multiplayer to more resemble how Battlefield looked more so than what it looks like now.

                      • You really should actually read what you are quoting. Here, I'll help. "I had a conversation with some of the other leads and we came to the conclusion that it just wasn't ready yet." "The data was still there but what 'Trials of Osiris' has become is very different than what it would have been." Those two quotes don't point to content being cut in order to re sell later as DLC and isn't any sort of admission/conformation from Bungie that they did. It clearly says that ToO wasn't ready and that what we are getting is very different to what we would have got. Not putting something in with the launch because its not ready, then releasing something that's different than originally planned is VERY different to cutting ready to go content to re sell later for DLC.
