They're not "right there". They're incredibly far away. By looking at stars you're observing something that happened a very long time ago. Similarly, we can observe evolution based on surviving evidence. Fossils and such.

If I may butt in, it was only an example, since light from stars did take a great many years to first approach, and be visible from earth, I believe my colleague is trying to say that looking into the past is not quite that difficult. Looking for evidence of evolution, just involves a bit more work, from studying fossils, to DNA, to creating experiments showing micro evolution. On the chance you are highly religious, remember, this has nothing to do with initial creation. In fact, God possibly could have planted the first few living cells on earth, and had them evolve. Or, on the off chance you believe since it is a theory, it hasn't been proven, keep in mind, cells are still a theory. TL;DR Your a bad troll, and you should feel bad.
