Nightfalls give you exotics by chance. At least with Xur you have to put effort into collecting strange coins, and are rewarded with the exotic that he brought, and everyone has a chance at earning that one exotic. With nightfalls, its entirely random, so you dont really earn it. You didnt work for it, the game decided to give you one from RNG.
