While I agree that lacking empathy is a horrible thing, I would argue that corporations are greedy on top of the no empathy part (note how I made a distiction of a "non psycopath way). I may have misinterpreted the OP's original question, but I would have to put greed in the category of an emotion/ feeling. And while I agree that "logical" responses vary from person to person, if the person has absolutely no emotion, aka outside factors, influencing their decision, I could imagine that their response would be the best possible. But I agree, the success of human beings can largely be attributed to the "herd mentality" and people working together for the most part.

Well greed is less an emotion and more an addiction. If other people do not influence you, its possible to ignore their plights will reveling in a dopamine bath created by making money. That's most certainly my hypothesis, anyway. Nobody is lacking all emotions, some just lack empathy and guilt, I guess.
