Hey guys I am just curious as to how many people are Crucible or Iron Banner maniacs and think that Thorn, as great and beautiful as she is, could do with a little more nerfing?
In my latest visit to the banner the weapon grouping of choice appeared to be Thorn and Felwinters Lie (with Hammer Forged perks with either Rangefinder and/or Shot Package). Felwinter's Lie is a fantastic weapon with a variety of downfalls which can be countered so that I am not too fussed about.
It was however, the relentless barrage of Thorn bullets being hurled my direction by a full fireteam of 6 players on the opposing side that grasped my attention and forced me to post this, 2 bullets in the head, or 3 bullets in the body and that's all she wrote, if by some miracle you survive, then the staggering 28 points of lingering poison damage will see that your perseverance is short lived. If a full fireteam stick to each others sides and constantly outnumber you (which is a great tactic don't get me wrong) you will turn that corner and find yourself dropped rather stupidly fast.
This raises the question for me, does it require another nerf?
I used the weapon at the beginning of the latest Iron Banner and then whenever I would tire of its use, and choose a different weapon such as Red Death, Suros Regime or Bad Juju it would be cool, I would do rather well to be honest, 3 days in I retried this tactic and was forced to reach once again for Thorn, its Range, its Damage Over Time and noticably its Fire Rate are all factors I think that should be looked into, I am not suggesting that all the before mentioned stats see a stat reduction but perhaps one to try and balance the competitive matchmaking before Trials of Osiris hits, otherwise I am going to assume that Thorn or Hawkmoon will be the choice of 90% of online gamers.
What do you, the community say on this topic? I am curious as to whether I am just losing focus or rambling about something that needs no ramble.

I'm just now getting my thorn. Not crying because of all the feedback. I'm just interested since I moved away from autos to scouts for more precision. I'm just more curious on how its like to be on the other side of thorn with it in my hand more than receiving a headshot from one.

If it got nerfed the nerf babies would find something else to complain about. There will always be a number 1 gun that is popularly used.
-
Fixed*, not nerfed.
-
I think Trials of Osiris has sealed it for me, Thorn needs less DoT or shorter Range, the thing acts like a sniper which is ridiculous, not to mention that most people have a squad of 3 using Thorn, so Red Death doesn't count.
-
The fatebringer does the same, 2 to the head and one to the body, yet no one calls for it to be nerfed....
-
-
Yes yes yes
-
Did a run and completed it with 1 loss remaining and yes, thorn or LTW.
-
I personally think the thorn is ridiculous, when I go into trials of osiris with the thorn I am damn near unstoppable. All you have to do is land one hit (from across the map which shouldn't even be possible with a handcannon) and while their health is dropping have your team rush from different sides. They panic, go into a frenzy and you just crush them. The fact that you can hit a person once from the other side of the map and still cause damage is just unfair. If that doesn't scream overpowered then idk what does.
-
IMO its not overpowered at all you just have to find ways around certain loadouts and weapons, its just a strong hand cannon because of the DOT. The lingering damage makes it harder for players to recover health, making dragged out fights with a thorn user ending bad.
-
As someone who picked up the thorn again recently I can vouch it's a great handcannon but its not over powered its just versatile in many situations long short and mid ranges can be roamed by thorn without being destroyed the fact you die by it a lot doesn't mean it needs nerfed I have been playing crucible a lot and I do fine without the thorn and do fine against people with the thorn it's not over powering its just commonly used because it's situational value is better then any other weapon in the game so change according to the situation thorn tends to get crazy in a fire fight it's hard to control when you shooting rapidly so use auto rifles with range and stability and head shots

Thorn is retardedly overpowered. My team went against full 34s with mixed thorns, and we got smashed to a pulp. IT is so overpowered and should be blocked from trials of Osiris as well as iron banner! And when it was a heavy ammo round, they camped out because they couldn't use their thorns (AKA guaranteed win)

Best counter for thorn=red death. I have killed thorn users countless times with this gun and just when they are watching me from their dead ghost waiting for me to die.... I don't because red death counters dot damage. Yes it is as easy as that. Conversation done. Learn how to counter play styles and weapons and stop asking for developers to change stats because you don't like it.
-
Let's nerf all the legendaries and then. Take aggressive tracking from Truth. Take wolf pack rounds from jelly. Hmm, take lucky shots from Hawkmoon. Make the vex a regular fusion rifle. Or you know what. Let's all use blue gear and green weapons.
-
It shouldn't be nerfed at all. If you paid attention to any of the polls regarding the thorn you would see that almost 80% of the players don't want it touched.
-
Got my 365 thorn ready.....
-
I honestly have had more issues against the last word
-
Nothing in the history of multiplayer gaming has needed nerfing more than Thorn.

Edited by TeeJa VasAlarei: 5/22/2015 6:29:48 AMI really think for the Trials that everyone should start out with the same weapon and have to pick up different weapons laid out throughout the map. That way it is just skill versus skill.

If you nerf thorn we will have the same conversation about tlw, nerf that and we're talking about red death, then mythoclast. Etc etc. The way this game works there will always be a best gun. In halo you start with a dmr and have to actually fight over the weapons on the map.

Lol, you'd have to be a complete dumbass to run Thorn in ToO. What the hell are you afraid of, it's not that gun.
