Where can I find fire embers? I want to infuse my bastard sword with fire at Mcduffs but don't have any. Or any of the stones for that matter

As Emperor Drak said, you can buy one from Chloanne at some point (I believe it's after you finish Undead Crypt). There's also one in Dragon Aerie, but that's further on. You might want to try your luck trading items with Dyna & Tilo in Things Betwixt. It's possible to get one from there. (If you're unfamiliar with Dyna & Tilo, there's a nest in Things Betwixt you'll come to if you progress through the first fog gate on the left after going past the bonfire. Drop either a prism stone, any smooth & silky stone, or a petrified something inside the nest, then quit the game. When you load the game back up, another item will be on the floor in its place.)

That was ds1 you don't have to exit the game anymore :) just pick it straight back up :)

It's ok, you can drop multiple items at a time aswell

The stone chick in Harvest Valley sells them at some point, talk to her to make her go to Majula

You will get many stones later in the game. Beware of the stat affects of buffing though. You tend to lose some scaling and base damage

You won't get the dull ember until you hit the iron keep
