This post aims to improve Destiny through certain aspect of the game encouraging individualisation and customisability through user feedback and suggestions. Aiming to help Bungie with improving the game as always.
(Individualisation & Customability)
What is individualisation? Why do we need it?
Individualisation refers to the differentiating (not a calculus reference at all ;) hehe) of one character to others. In reference to gaming in particular or directly to Destiny, by which this post is aimed at refers to enabling the players themselves to customise their own characters to differentiate them from others, as well as at the same time achieving and projecting the player to choose their own paths in regards to traits, abilities etc.
Ok, how can this be achieved or implemented into Destiny?
Well, many players throughout the gaming universe may fall under the trap we’re their ideas may seem brilliant to implement however, never really consider the creative processes that need to be undertaken to achieve these ideas e.g.(individualisation). They may not also understand the processes undertaken in regards to production, testing and refining until these ‘ideas’ are officially released to the public. So in this post, I would like to tackle the process of creativity in regards to these ‘ideas’ while at the same time gain suggestions from other players in what they like to see in the game at a reasonable state.
How do I & various other players may think we can individuals the player and furthermore the character experience?
Well, there are various ‘ideas’ that I myself can merely think of, so I’ll try my best to simplify them, and categorise them in a sequential manner.
Ghosts:
Many of Destiny players who have purchased the game initially through the ‘Collectors addition’ to gain extra access to new features, while subconsciously never really considering the individualised aspect that is integrated with these purchases. So for those who have bought these e.g. ‘The Collectors Addition’ will have received in regards to the Ghosts ‘The Frontier Shell’ (Do correct me if I have mistaken this) and thus, in some respects gained a certain aspect of the game that has individualised themselves through their character. I may as well say “I shall only speak for those of us that are disadvantaged”, or merely to say unlucky in regards not being able to obtain these aspects of the game. So, what do I think? Well I think it would be great to give players that haven’t received these aspects of the game as well as those who have to some point ‘access’ to these areas. But! Of course at a price my fellow associates! I know, well I have heard from a little bird that there have been Ghost Shells to a certain point implemented but ‘Unknown’. Well I think it would be great to implement these fully. But force well more engage the player to work towards these, an example would be:
Engage the player to undertake various missions or strikes to gain these Ghost Shells. The players can even be tasked to gain a certain array of materials to create theses Shells and further, may even be asked to kill a certain enemy, gain a certain amount of kills or collect a special type of material to encase these shells in light so the ghost may use them?
Ok so, that was the Ghost Shells. Now, let’s make Ghosts a much more useful & thus intriguing to the player! What I’am saying is basically enable to Ghost to somewhat interfere in the characters in game mechanics e.g. defence, ability prowess, and even alter how certain weapons react to these ghosts, increased stats? e.g. fire rates, stability, you get the jist right? Do bear in mind to make these sound cool I just asked what the words where in latin from my good friend google.
Let me enlighten you with some examples:
Brutus Tunica (Heavy Shell):
Applies the following abilities to Guardian including (Only once the shell has been equipped):
Defence: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Movement Speed: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Celeritate Dæmonium Tunica (Speed Demon Shell):
Applies the following abilities to Guardian including (Only once the shell has been equipped):
Movement Speed: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Defence: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
OR
- Weapon Stability: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Manus Dei Tunica (Hand Of God Shell):
Applies the following abilities to Guardian including (Only once the shell has been equipped):
Melee Refresh Rate: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Melee Strength: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Grenade Refresh Rate: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Ignis Tunica (Fire Shell):
Applies the following abilities to Guardian including (Only once the shell has been equipped):
Grenade Refresh Rate: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Grenade Strength: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Melee Refresh Rate: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Impetum Tunica (Attack Shell):
Applies the following abilities to Guardian including (Only once the shell has been equipped):
Attack: 2.5% boost at all times, increased to 5% boost while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Movement Speed: 2.5% decrease at all times, 5% decrease while guardian shield has been eliminated.
Well. I believe they are ample examples for you all to catch my drift in terms of giving use to Ghost Shells and furthermore, providing player/character customisability AND ‘Individualisation.
Weaponry:
In this section I will refer to how I believe we can possibly alter Weaponry in Destiny to provide some sort of customisability and ‘Individualisation' to the game. This will only refer to exotics as this may be considered “Overpowered” to some players and thus, in their eyes may need balancing. What i’m referring to is the ‘Final Upgrade’ of all Exotic Weaponry, where the player is asked to buy an Exotic Shard which has been recently implemented. I quite enjoy these shards, and believe they are an interesting mechanic, to “Be played with”. Currently I believe that they don’t really serve a purpose for the weapon and seem to be unsatisfying towards the player when tasked in buying one to complete the ‘Final Upgrade’. Thus, I believe it needs improvements and of course refinement. I’m referring to playing with the different damage aspects of the game (Arc, Solar, Void). After all, these exotic weapons aren’t easy to grab hold of and seem not to have a presence in the game. An example on how this can be implemented is:
- (‘Final Upgrade’): Once they player applies the Exotic Shard to the Weaponry they are engaged by a pop up of some sort which ask them to ‘choose’ (Choice is crucial in individuality) which Damage Aspect they’d like to have (Arc, Solar, Void). Basically I believe each weapon should be random in regards to which damage aspect they allow you to apply onto the weapon, from a choice of two of the entire three e.g. Arc & Solar. The player is asked to choose between the two to apply to their weapon and voila! Now, balancing. Well similar to the ‘Murmur’ each aspect can affect the weapon in various ways, such as; increased fire rate, damage. But also reduction in other aspects such as; stability and range. Also balancing can be furthered through disabling the players’s ability to reverse their choice of aspect of damage on their ‘Exotic Weapon’ unless they buy another Exotic Shard or some special matter that allows them to reverse the change at a cost as always. Thus, I believe appropriately managing the balance issue of Exotic Shards.
Conclude For The Day:
That’s the end of what I have to say for today, stay tuned though as I will continue to make edit to this post through player suggestions etc. Thank you so much for reading, and oh my I have written a lot sorry!
