• You know even to have someone else print out a very small part even.if.you already have all the solidworks files ready it's gonna be at least $300. what $500 3D printer would be able to print anything remotely to your scale and not have to spend hours filing and cutting off excess filament. The tech isn't affordable enough for stuff like this and I've used plenty of different printers. You pay for what you get

  • Also, how big is the one for $500? It would need to be able to print atleast 3X16" i would think to do a mythoclast. Also, is it any good or a piece of crap that will break?

  • You can print it in parts. If you want one that big to print it fully. That will cost shit loads

  • So your saying this kid should have spent at least 500 plus the cost of materials, and then learned how to use the machine and then designed a mythoclast piece by piece, and then put it all together, just for a highschool project?

  • Actually I didn't bother to read it. So I didn't see door the project. I just clicked the links. No obviously not but if you are a desticle. Yes

  • First of all, i don't think you know what a desticle is. Secondly, a persons level of fanboy/girlism does not force them to be ridiculous in the ways in which they express said fandom. Third, after reading some comments directed at yourself and others by guys who have used and worked with 3d printers before, i see that i was right, and that a 3d printed vex, in parts or not, would costs thousands.

  • Desticle is someone who thinks Destiny is the perfect game. A fanboy. And NO. What to bet on it? My uncle has one and built something. Smaller obviously but made it in parts and put it together

  • Also a desticle is a fanboy/girl who says destiny has no flaws. Not all fanboy/girls are desticles.

  • How big? Did he design it himself? If so, how complex is it? How much did his printer cost? How much did the material cost? How much time did it take?

  •
How big? Did he design it himself? If so, how complex is it? How much did his printer cost? How much did the material cost? How much time did it take?
Not big. Like I said? Yes. Not much. Not sure but I know it wasn't thousands. It's about $21 per roll Who the -blam!- cares? Complexity isn't going to cost more. It will take more time. It isn't going to take 100 rolls to finish it black and gold and a few others

  • Complexity increases the time it takes to design something dude. Also, you aren't being exact about the size, a vex is probably literally close to 10 times as big as a handgun.

Yes vex would take tons of pieces no doubt if he used his. If you want it to look perfect, go ahead and spent 10 grand on the best printer out there

  • Time is money dude, as others have said, good 3d printer people can charge thousands for what they do. Not to mention the fact that designing the vex in software could take dozens of hours ( im guessing, i do not use a 3d printer obviously) which translates to basically hundred of dollars in income that would have been gained by working instead. Also, my initial issue was with people asking him to to build a perfect 3d printed one instead and you had an issue with me calling them out for how expensive that would be. Now you are backtracking and trying to act like that wasn't our initial argument. Tldr for the whole convo: you are actually the one who doesn't know how expensive 3d printers are.

Not people trying to make gigantic things and make money off them. This is the closest thing I could find that could make the mythoclast. Even the most extensive wasn't long enough to make it in one part http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=171776674731

You build it in parts and put it together? If you want to build the entire thing AT ONCE in a printer? Good luck.

  • I'd hate to attempt that program lol its hard enough programming flat parts...I suppose you could do it flat pack style but kind of defeats the point of a 3d printer...I could probably make one on my waterjet out of aluminium in flat pack lol
