Echoes Chapter 3 (Part III): Revelations

The three guardians quickly and quietly stacked up against the door frame. Archangel signaled them to stay quiet as he peeked through the doorway. The lights flickered off and on, adding to the eeriness of the place. The floor was covered in mechanical devices and a thick black liquid. The walls displayed bullet holes and scorch marks, as well as hive hieroglyphs. In the back of the room there stood three Hive knights, crowded around two figures. One of which was the exo, screaming his voice modulator ragged. The other was a wizard, though Archangel couldn't quite get a clear view of what she was doing to it. As William and Elysia stepped through the door and saw what was happening, Archangel charged quickly and silently at the group of Hive. The first knight to see the hunter coming didn't get to make a sound before a throwing knife was buried hilt-deep in its face. The armor-clad figure stumbled back into the wall and hit with a thud. The sound attracted the attention of the other two knights, so they didn't see Archangel coming, or the arc blade materializing in his hand. In a blur of motion, both knights became headless. The wizard turned to see her escort dead, and threw her arm up to summon a cloud of darkness over herself. It was severed by Archangel's arc blade before she got the chance to use her magic. The wizard screeched in pain and clutched at what was left of her forearm. Archangel swung his arc blade for the wizard's throat, but Elysia lunged forward and caught his hand. "Wait!" She reasoned with him as he struggled against her. "We can use her. Interrogate her." Archangel let his blade dissolve into static as he looked at her. "Interrogate her? Do you know anyone that can speak wizard?" He asked her, still not catching on. "As a matter of fact, I do." She wryly replied. William was busy tending to the exo, which was huddled on the floor in the fetal position. The screams had been turned to painful and weak groans. The exo itself was a mess. Many of its internal components had been torn or cut out, and it amazed Archangel that it could still move the lower half of its body. William was coaxing coherent words out of it, asking who it was and what happened. "My name is...my name is Ronin-47. My unit...my friends...they're all gone.." The exo convulsed a few times before speaking again. "You are all going to die. The Black Death is coming...and nothing can stop them. Not even their own kind.." Ronin began to sputter and mumble incoherently before spewing out black liquid. He screamed only once more, then the light left his eyes and he was gone.
